Welcome to 2nd Cup of Coffee ~ Brewing since 2005

Because we just can’t get enough of the fluffy stuff from Halloween to Easter, Indiana is on the list for a 6” snowstorm over the next 24 hours. Therefore, I’m posting early in hopes of tricking the Power Outages That Be and in hopes of sidestepping a painful death due to being cut off from the rest of the world, meaning “bloggers,” especially those who blog about LOST. [*Edit: Who do you think is on the boat? I think Michael or CHOLLIE! Please let it be Charlie!] Please join me for the party below, featuring a "Getting To Know Me" post and sideshow slideshow.

So you’re clicking around the Ultimate Blog Party, eh? Congratulations on letting everything else in life slide while you "build community."

You have landed at 2nd Cup of Coffee, a place where I hope you’ll develop a new habit of stopping daily for the extra few moments it would take to sip a 2nd Cup. I try to write as if we’re sitting across the table from each other IRL. Except you can’t see my crazy eyes.

I created a slideshow to illustrate the topics I like to talk about. If you have any questions, please ask.

And here are a few bonus factoids:

-Humor moves me. Deeply.

-I have teenaged-early adult kids. They do not say cute things regularly. I can recommend some other blogs wherein you will read about kids saying the darnedest things, but here you will merely find odd quotes and mildly disturbing stories about high school and college kids, like, “Hello, Mom? Guess what? My dorm is on fire.”

-Hometown: Muncie, IN, home of Garfield the Cat and location for “Armed and Famous.” (Yes, I have seen Erik Estrada in person.)

-My teenaged son can text more messages than your kid.

-My dog embodies the only cuteness left in our home and the only pure goodness left in the world because she was not born with a sinful nature. And by the way, March 6 was her birthday, so she is now 6. To celebrate her birthday, she was allowed on the carpet, a very big deal. Don’t knock it until you’ve scooted your hinder on it. Heaven.

-Sometimes I have to purge my house of chocolate and oats and peanut butter because I will keep making and eating no bake cookies until I’m unconscious.

-I am 45. I work in the office of a youth ministry. I am blonde. I drive a Camaro. My Camaro also moves me. Deeply.

-My favorite movies are Waiting for Guffman and Signs. If you like Christopher Guest movies, we are automatic BFFs.

-I enjoy the music of Aaron Shust.

-Sometimes I post about serious stuff, but people seem to like it better when I post about American Idol (as in the post before this one). Wait a minute—what am I saying—that is serious stuff that requires informed voting by the American public.

-Sometimes I have to go on a shopping spree to buy massive amounts of chocolate and oats and peanut butter because I’m possessed by the spirit of No Bakes. Or the spirit of PMS.

Things I like to blog about:

I'm giving away a book--to be decided! Please leave a comment to be included in the drawing.

Well hello there, BFF -- "Waiting for Guffman" is one of my favorites as well! I was also pleased to find another "Signs" appreciator. Too many people think it's a movie about aliens and therefore dismiss it. So, good form!
P.S. No-bake cookies -- excellent. My Mom called them "moon rocks" when I was little. But sometimes when we were too lazy even to make a batch of no-bakes (which is pretty darn lazy), we'd just add cocoa and sugar or cinnamon and brown sugar to melted butter and oatmeal. The result? Oatmeal Treat, AKA the food of the gods.
Have a wonderful day :)

You make me laugh! I panicked when I saw you had already posted, then realized the deal about the snow. At least I don't have to worry about that. Just need to come up with something interesting to say to attract folks.

Ted Koppel probably isn't it.

Ang baylis said...

I LOVE your blog... and I LOVE No bake cookies! Some day we should compare recipes. Yum... I may need to make a batch soon. I LOVE your sense of humor. I'm waiting for a picture of your Camaro... I guess I'll have to have another cup of coffee.
Love,
Angie xoxo

p.s. I heard 12 inches for Michigan!

Hey! This was fun! I love your slideshow! AND tripple love your princess picture at the top...you are so pretty!

Hey great Post! I saw Donny Osmond in your slide show! Did you know he's in a movie called "College Roadtrip"? My daughter and I are going to see it Saturday. It's rated G so it should be cute! Did I say It's got Donny in it!

Naomi said...

Hi Linda, I've been lurking at on the side of your your blog for a while now. And always love hearing about other people, thank for the laugh. Love the pic, it's really sweet. Any way just wanted to say Hi.

Love NAomi

Heth said...

Sometimes we make no-bakes without the chocolate and then they are kind of caramely. I cracked up when you said that little Left Eye doesn't have a sin nature.

I am so glad I stopped by, The Ultimate Blog Party had slipped my mind. I have frequent *brain farts* because of my MS ( my poor excuse)!! Love the slide show, might try one myself. Here in Tx we are under a snow warning!!

Teresa said...

Well, I have good luck on this blog! So I'm in for the book! :) Hope you're having a great day. Try to stay warm in all that snow!

Linda,
Love the slideshow and the picture is great!

Love ya, Deb

Kelly @ Love Well said...

Linda, you crack me up as only people who work in youth ministry can do.

And that's a compliment. Really.

Good luck with the six inches. At least it's March and it will melt fast, right? And least that's what we say in Minnesota to keep us all from slashing at our wrists with a dull butter knife.

marina said...

Loved the show!! But I thought I was your BFF!!LOL!!!(just kidding)

Did you see Donny Osmond comes out at the movies these firday can't wait to hear you talk about that b/c I know you will go see it and tell us all about the move,I can't remember the name "Trip something!!

Because of all your talking about the show Lost I had to find it. I am now in the middle of season one. I have no life but devotions and Lost. Family--pshaw--what family. Let them fend for themselves.

Linda said...

Oh, rmpl, who are you? I tried to reply, but I was blocked. Surely you want to talk about your new raison d'etre?

Amy Wyatt said...

Loved the slide show!! No bakes are Greg's absolute favorite. Maybe I'll make some tonight while watching LOST. Aahh...the power of suggestion.

I'm sorry you guys are expecting snow :( Unless of course you like it. I had to leave Indiana to move back to the South because I really think I have SAD. It's so sad.

I had never even really seen snow growing up in SC 45 minutes from the coast until I went to IU. I remember calling my family so excited on Halloween because it was snowing. When I called back at Easter and it was still snowing... I decided being landlocked and getting snow 6 months of the year wasn't for me... even though I learned to love the Hoosiers while there.

I'll be thinking about you in the snow this weekend. It was 68 here today.

Linda said...

Amy, Amy, you look so sweet in your pic. Why would you want to rub snow into my wound?

Darlene R. said...

I have to second your comment to Amy. I don't want more snow, please no more snow!

Did you know that we live only 85 miles apart? I'm about an hour north of Indy. Hmm. Just a little tidbit of info.

I love your slide show of loves for your blogs. But I love the picture of you better. You are a girl after my own heart with those bare feet and jeans--and you're just beautiful. But, girl, your desk and mine need to have a talk. Waaaaaaaay to neat--do you hear a hint of jealousy? As I sort through the mounds tomorrow, I'm wishing mine looked like yours with color-coded folders and everything. Love, Annette

Missy @ It's Almost Naptime said...

I love Best in Show more than WFG, but only because of Parker Posey's character.

And, it may be a sin, but when he says, "Hmm. Looks like Rhapsody has two mommies." I just have to rewind and rewind and laugh and laugh and laugh...

My Maine-iac pal who lives in TX now had the AUDACITY to tell me it was cold there. She had to turn OFF her AC.

110 inches and counting up here, I don't know "Waiting for Guffman", but I feel your snow pain!

Kim said...

Mornin' Linda! I'm hunkerin' down for this "so called" storm we're going to have. I'll believe it when I see it! Actually, I have nothing more to do this weekend, so an excuse to stay in, scrapbook, read, watch movies and stay in my jammers is something I'm actually looking forward to, although I'd much rather be reading on a beach somewhere...hmmm...where would that be?? Oh! Yeah! HAWAII!! Peanut is having a FAB time and they'll be coming back to frigid IN on Monday!

I love your slideshow...just may inspire me to make one of my own.

Have fun at the appreciation banquet! 2...4...6...8 who do we appreciate? LINDA and her fun and inspiration!!!! ;)

Blessings!

I'll be stopping by again for my second, or perhaps third, cup of coffee. Dark chocolate/chocolate chips and peanut butter are two things on my "buy in the States" list. When we get home from furlough, I just start a new list on the side of the fridge with those two items at the top. I have yet to buy enough to last 6 months! :^) I usually don't bother to make them into cookies, though. Just gimme a spoon.

Happy blog party!

Love the quote on writing. ;) And to think! I was doing something right and didn't know it!

Love the slideshow on your blog topic favorites. Such a great idea.

Love chocolate, too. However, my favorite way to have it administered (since IV isn't an option) is by Godiva Raspberry Dark Chocolate Bar... or the Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate my husband makes with just a dash of cayenne pepper in it. Oh, man. I need to stop talking about this...

I'm just not with ya on the American Idol thing. Rather watch paint dry. :(

So nice to meet you, though! Happy Blog Party! ROCK OUT.

Bonus comment: I used to say this when I was in high school and partying all the time (I was a punk and made fun of "bowheads"... so this is my bowhead impression:)

"Are your friends cool? Do you dance cool? WELL, ROCK OUT!" ;)

I crack myself up.
