The Thing That Made Me Laugh Hardest This Week

I'm thinking about creating yet another new sidebar category: "The Thing That Made Me Laugh Hardest This Week."

This would be the first entry:

The phone rings. It's my mom (82), who is very excited about something. She is telling me to get my 15 year-old, Kristin, to come to the family room to see someone on TV (Olympics). She says a relative called her saying that there is a girl on TV right now whom Kristin looks exactly like. She repeats this several times while I call out for Kristin to come in.

So Kristin and her friend and Jorge come into the fam room. I quickly prepare Kristin to get ready to see her twin. We are all glued.

I ask my mom, "What is the girl's name?"

"Kristin looks just like her!"

"I know, Mom; what is her name?"

"Ching Ching."

"What? 'Ching Ching?' Are you kidding me?"

And then Guo Jingjing's face is on the screen, and I start laughing so hard I can't even finish the conversation.

Do my relatives really think Kristin looks Asian? I guess she does have brown hair! Needless to say, ever since then, at just the opportune moment, like when Kristin opens the car door and jumps in for her ride home from school, I greet her with, "Hey. How was your day today, Ching Ching?" And she replies, "I'm ignoring you."

Here she is mugging for the camera on the first day of school this year, the 10th grade.

People often tell her she looks like Disney's Miranda Cosgrove.
I can't tell you how much I love this girl. Kristin, that is, not Miranda. Although I'm sure Miranda's a very nice girl. She's just not my Ching Ching.

LOL, sounds like you two have a fun relationship. I think she is beautiful either way :-D Kind of looks like the two mixed together though.

Ok, I will give her this...they have the same hair color and style especially in the ones of her on her first day of 10th grade.

Other than that, Ching Ching is Ching Ching...and Kristin is Kristin. LOL!

lol She IS young, has brown hair about the same style, same oval face shape. Yep! She's identical!

Well, they do both have brown hair and eyes. Not sure about the resemblance.

She is lovely though.

A few years ago, my mother-in-law looked at me (blond, blue-eyed woman) and looked at her adopted son (my husband, dark skin, half-Asian, dark hair) and said, "You two look more alike every year you're married. You're almost identical now."

She was dead serious. We tried to laugh her off, but she insisted we're practically twins at this point.

So I feel you, Ching-Ching.

LOL. Okay, if I squint and hold my mouth a certain way I can sorta see why your mom thought that.

Your mom is way too sweet as is your relationship with her! And Kristen is gorgeous on her first day.

Ching Ching is better than Ted Koppel.

Moms are ding-a-lings.

HA! Too funny. Well, maybe the same hair length.... then again, my hair is about that long too. So maybe when Ching Ching is old (in her 40's) she'll look just like me!

I am seriously laughing until I'm crying. What a hoot. Sounds just like something my mother would call up and do! Your daughter is beautiful by the way. I love the idea of you perpetuating this hilarious moment by teasing her with an occasional ChingChing. Just up my alley. Thanks for sharing your hilarious moment!

If you start a new category about laughing...according this I will read it daily. This is so sweet.
Your daughter is lovely, but besides the obvious...I don't see it.

Keep laughing.

Snort, snort. :) My students asked me if I was Asian when I first started. Maybe it's worn off with time.

Yes, I see it. I mean look at them. They have almost the same hair and, and, and.... they're both girls.

So when is it that mom goes back to the eye doctor? Or maybe it's just time for a new TV.

First of all, your daughter is beautiful! Next, God Bless our Mothers. My 68 year-old mother, after her stroke, starting introducing my husband as, "My daughters second husband. He's eskimo!" My husband cannot not even spell Alaska!

FUN-NNY! You know what is really funny? Living in Asia, our family back home starts looking Asian to us too! We find look alikes over here all the time! ARGH! We've been here too long!

Serendipity said...

Ching Ching! LOL this really made me laugh! Hmm...think I can see some resemblance there between the two of them.

Susan said...

I think it's the facial structure...their faces are shaped the same and like another poster said, "they have the same hair"--well, sort of. Yeah, I would have laughed and then reminded myself that one day I may be making the same phone call to my own children and giving them a good laugh. :-) Susan

I love 82 year olds!!! My grandparents are both in that category and they are so funny. I'll have to e-mail you what they said recently as this is just not the appropriate grounds for repeating it. ;)
