Scariest Costume: Christmas 1997

Kristen from We are That Family hosts a weekly carnival called "Sincerely Fro Me to You," which cracks me up every time. Every time. Seriously, why doesn't that joke get old?

This week I had enough wits about me to remember to participate, but alack and alas, we have never celebrated Halloween, so I have no real costume pics.

But I do have scary pics. Like the one below. Christmas. 1997. A short, short dress over white, white hose with looong red shoes. Niiiice. Even the poor little mini-me was a style victim. I will say, though, that I've aged enough in 11 years to now look like I could be the mom of that woman in the picture instead of the same woman. {Shudder} ... scarrrrrry.

How 'bout you? You got any scariness?

WOOO, I got scariness all over me this week.

How I miss the days of white hose with everything. Not really.

...and I think we've seen about all the scariness we need from my past lately. Oh, and yes, that was a garter. Nice.
Have a great night!

I like the red & white the get-up. Although it would have looked far cooler with knee-hi patent leather red go-go-boots. YEA, BAby! Although there's much to be said for the looong shoes. They did look fairly fashionable with stirrup pants.
Rewind: 1990's. I was a huge 'Seinfeld' fan. My every-morning-in-front-of-the-mirror goal was to look exactly like Elaine Benes...Oh yes. The wall of hair! I had mastered it. IN Driver's Licence photo to prove it. FastForward: 2008. OH MY GOSH! I was a FREAK!

I will have to check out Kristen's meme. That was a hoot.

I think you both look great!

I'm just impressed that you have so many photos within reach. It would take some serious garage digging to locate anything half this good.

Put on some heels and shorten the sleeves and I see nothing wrong with that ;)

Yeah, that carnival name has to be as good or better than the entries themselves! I'm gonna have to check it out.

This is a great picture....I think you look very appropiate for the holidays!! : )

I might actually have to dig through some old photos for something....or it might be too scary...

The best thing about this picture is that you were so uber-perfect for the time. Seriously - I'm sure people hated your matched perfection. I probably had a very similar outfit :-)

That pic is hilarious because it looks like something I've worn before also! I had so many of the turtleneck jumperdressses that it's not even funny!

at least your shoes matched.

Just found your blog, enjoyed browsing! I think we all have a scary photo tucked away, esp fashion statements! I think my hair might've been permed back then. Thanks for sharing a fashion moment.

I have many scarry photos but I am afraid to lose readers if I post them. I once had a fro. I let a GF do it as a joke and I have to say it looked pretty good. :)

I have a WHOLE box of photos like that - scary! I have the navy suit with white hose and white/navy pumps. WOOOO! Sexy. (NOT!)

Loved the picture! You know, the 80's black legging and stirrup pants are back. How far behind can the white hose be?

I'm digging the red lipstick and nail polish too! :v)

That's AWESOME! You just made my morning :)

I'm sure you were totally rockin' that outfit at the time ;)

I remember the jumper/turtleneck days! I had a dream last night that I came home to visit. I was at your house and took my boots off and your dog took one and chewed it up! How funny given little Zoe is, well little!

I'm so glad you're participating!

And if those white hose don't count as scary, I don't know what does! Awesome!

I think you look cute...and very festive!

I think you look awesome in the red jumper! Gosh so sad my days of wearing anything like that are sooooo far behind me....

Why Lidna, whatever do you mean-scary? Your princess Di look was spot on as I'm sure mine was.

You both look too cute. Your daughter really reminds me a lot of my daughter Marissa when she was that age. She is 23 now!

I will not EVEN show you my scariness.

And the red lipstick and nail polish matched perfectly. I bet you had a red purse too, right?!

Just please tell me you didn't coordinate your boys' shirt colors with you and your daughters every Sunday.

Whoa! I remember my mom used to wear those and we called them her "dead legs." Now THAT'S scary!

OMG, I TOTALLY had several pairs of those white/cream stockings and wore them often. But we were STYLIN' back then.

Amazing, isn't it?

It's a hot look Linda. I'm sure Clinton would love it.

Oh yeah, the 90's. I had a very similar outfit...purple jumper, print turtle neck and cream colored tights to match...honestly can't remember what shoes I wore with it but I'm sure they were matchy-matchy!

Oh man I miss the days of matching our shoes to our shirt. Red dress = red shoes. Pink dress = pink shoes. Regardless of costuming, it was the thing. AND I MISS IT!!! I also miss matching out socks to our outfits. My husband wore a hot pink tie at our wedding. Likewise hot pink socks. Yes, he did. Yes indeedee!!!!

Fun!

we don't do the halloween thing either so i loved your approach to this one. scary...come on! i love the outfit! now if we go back to the 80's, now there's some scary stuff!

Chel's Leaving a Legacy said...

Aaahh, yes. I remember wearing black patent leather shoes with white bows on top and white hose too. How funny that nobody seems to ever wear hose anymore...of any color!

But I do love how your Minime (grin) was mimicking your hands. That, my dear, is timeless. :-)

Scary pics. Hmmmm. I shall have to look at "real" photo. REcently even the "good" photos are a bit scary, so I haven't had courage for a pretend scary one. I probably have some hairdo's taller than skyscrapers -- they weren't supposed to be scary at the time!!!

You look great--white hose, red shoes and all :)
Me--two words "shoulder pads" ugh!

LOL...I had that exact outfit, and one in cranberry as well! Only Christmas of 1997 I was 8 months preggo with my first, so I was instead wearing a gigantic pair of wide-wale corduroy maternity overalls. Bad 90's style was absolutely at its best with maternity wear!
