30 x 5 Questions Continued and a Coupla Other Things


Yesterday I asked if you all had any questions for me re the 30 x 5.

Interestingly, only one blogger took that request seriously, or not so seriously, as you will see, and followed my commands like a true and good 30 x 5 minion devotee would. That very obedient blogger would be new blogger friend Shawna at My Girls.

So here's what she said when I asked for Q's:

Shawna, believe me, there isn't much I haven't already shared here at 2nd Cup. I'm pretty much open to talking about anything. You see, that makes me open and approachable to readers. And it makes me real. Really, really, REAL. Ridiculously real. So relax. Tell me, child, what is your first 30 x 5 question?

What do you wear while you work out?

That topic is out of bounds.

Oh, OK. I wear anything and everything. The thing is, my machine is next to double mirrors that serve as walk-in closet doors. They mirrors are big. They are unforgiving. So I have had to get over trying to look "cute" or "athletic" a long time ago. Therefore, I wear shorts or jogging pants and tank tops and t-shirts. One shirt that is a real treat is the one I dye my hair in. It says "Peace on Earth," but I ripped it from the neck down a few inches so that I can throw it off when I have finished the dye job and need to hop into the shower. That way, the neck opening is so big that the shirt comes right off without smearing much of the dye. It's quite attractive with all the staining and everything. It's like homemade cammo wear.

What's your favorite healthy snack?

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, especially ones in pastel foil.

Wait, that is the former evil me speaking. The new and improved 30 x 5 me says:

I'm currently snarfing:

Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax Bars. Because: 300 mg Omega-3s; 7 whole grains; 4 g. fiber, 6 g protein; 2 bars in each pack, 180 cals per two bars. My favorite way to eat them is crunched in lowfat vanilla yogurt. And I promise you, this is a huge treat that packs a bunch of good stuff into every bar.

I like them so much that I have to leave the box in my car at work or I will be tempted to eat the whole box that day. So I just take in a yogurt and two bars each morning and look forward to eating them in a slightly obsessive, scary way.

What's something clumsy you've done while working out? (e.g., falling off the treadmill, tripping over the cat, etc.)

Shawna, do you have a Jack Tripper fixation?

Probably the clumsiest thing about me on the machine is that since an elliptical moves your arms as well as lower body, I'm used to having those "handlebars" to hang onto. But occasionally, I like to change the TV channel or take a drink of water, which, since I'm not a circus performer, requires hands to do.

So I let go long enough to do whatever while still walking, and somehow, that throws me off, not to the point of falling off, but of doing some very strange moves sometimes to right myself.

The only other weird thing is that I get a little kink in my right groin area (did I just use "kink" and "groin" in the same sentence? Because someone Googling "kink*y" or "groin" is surely going to land on this post and be majorly disappointed.)

If so: Sorry, dude. I'm an overweight, middle aged blogger mom who has a kink in her groinage while on the elliptical machine. Move on.

Anyway, when the pain grows too strong, I have to stop and pull my foot up to my knee, swing my knee way out to the right sight and POP the kink. Then I can continue.

I sincerely hope that did not turn anyone on.

To answer my own questions:

1) I will exercise in anything I have on. I typically wear a kindergartener on my back and a toddler wrapped around my legs. I like to take my workout "to the next level."
2) I eat a lot of fruit and salad. I'm also fond of nuts. I would have to be, with the company I keep.
3) Just about every move I make is clumsy. That's why I asked you the question. I was hoping I wasn't the only one who's twisted an ankle dancing around the living room or fallen off the treadmill after deciding MAYBE I was coordinated enough to jog. FYI, I am not.

Good morning! I've never invested in "cute" exercise clothes and I would look pretty hilarious if I tried.
Off topic... you have ruined your reputation of not being able to cook well. I made your Champion White Fajita Chile last night and it was really great. Way to go!

Another hilarious Linda post. How do you do that? How do you use the words "kink" and "groin" and send me into the giggles?

My answers eve though I'm not "officially participating in the 30x5.
1. I HAVE to wear dry-wicking clothes as I majorly sweat. Once I tried it, there was no going back to plain old cotton. Target and Walmart have some cheap stuff made out of the right material.
2. We are supposed to be eating healthy?
3. I run with another girl and sometimes I just start zoning out and stray to the left and invade her personal space by bumping into her. Hey, it's 5:30 am. I can't be held responsible for having equilibrium.

Go people go! Move, move, move!

first of all, are we supposed to use your website as a timecard of our workout? you know, to keep us accountable? :D if so, i DID walk my 3 miles on sunday, 30 minutes on the treadmill yesterday and today... will be 3 miles at the park again with jasmine. i know. she can't wait. :)

now, to answer these questions so that no harsh punishment comes upon me (you know, like having to clock 5 extra minutes on my treadmill!).

1. i wear my strethy pants (not quite nacho libre) and a t-shirt or tank top.

2. my guilty pleasure WAS organic cliff bars for kids, but it's not so healthy if you're tempted to eat the whole box! so, now i'm back to special k and apples.

3. me? clumsy? ha... well, it could have been a disaster complete with a 911 call. however, i managed to stay standing. it's all because the gym does not have the tv's lined up with the treadmills. i can't walk ahead and look to my side (and chew gum, rub my belly, pat my head, etc, etc)

1. I wear sweat pants or jogging shorts and a tank top.

2. I am in love with Kashi Dark Chocolate Coconut Bars. 120 Calories of yummy goodness. I am definately going to have to try the Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax Bars with yogurt because that sounds delish.

3. I have been known to trip while walking outside, but as for the treadmill I have never fallen off. You crack me up the kink and groin..LOL:)

Ok - i have a confession to make...

Although i started out the three days before the official start OK, i failed to do it on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday... :( I was able to get out on Saturday and Sunday...

I may not meet the ultimate goal... but i am going to plug along as many days as i can from here on out...

You know what's really awesome? I'm not even using the timer anymore. And for the past couple of days, I haven't really planned 30 minutes of activity. I've just been movin' and shakin' all day long...just being generally more active. Thanks for the kick in the butt, Linda. And I'm glad I made you laugh this morning. :)

You are too funny. I've heard of Da Kink in my Hair but never Da Kin*k in my G*roin. LOL. And picturing the remedy for it as you described was cracking me right up, too.

What do I wear? What ever I have on. There was a time when I wore "official" workout clothes but now I have to grab the workout when I can so hence whatever I'm wearing. And if I happen to be walking in the neighborhood I don't want to shock or scare anyone by wearing anything with the word "yoga" in it.

Favorite healthy snack? Do Eatmore's count?

Clumsy stuff? I'll have to think about that one.

Well, I did jog yesterday AND today, begrudgingly. I am in a funk and what I want to do is kick back with a bag of those Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. (MY son asked me yesterday if we had any eggs- I nearly fainted at hearing him request something healthy- and then he clarified that he meant PEANUT BUTTER eggs!!!!)

And even though I'd rather overeat, I'm going out for a walk now.

Hey, Coach...checkin' in for the day...3/31/09 ellipt/10mins, free weights/upper body & quads, 30min/5mile bike
1. my cotton stretch capris and any tank top...although this is my normal outfit while i'm enduring these flashes...it will be shorts soon
2. genisoy cheddar crisps and Pace Mild salsa is one of my passions...http://www.genisoy.com/
so I have to measure out (cause i CAN eat the whole 3oz bag)
3. haven't fallen off the elliptical yet; but today after I put my cobweb duster across my shoulders and starting my "twisting" to work on my waist, the "duster" went flying across the room...i was lucky I didn't hit BS&K with it while she was doing her weight work! oooops!

As I usually role out of bed way too early to walk with my daughter on her paper route I have on my lovely pink & white striped flannel pjs. I started doing this while it's still rather cold so they are then covered up with a pair of old black Army PT sweats from my husband and my red Columbia winter coat. A knit hat and mittens complete the ensemble. I'm thinking I will have to rethink this routine when it warms up enough. Not sure the neighbors could handle just the pink & white stripped pjs.

My favorite healthy snack? I really love to eat fresh sliced orange or red bell peppers. But they are not nearly as plentiful in our house as chocolate is.

Clumsy - does flipping over the porch railing onto my backside while trying to retrieve a newspaper gone astray count?
