Easter Frills and Thrills Blog Carnival--Fashion Retrospective

Easter Frills and Thrills

Thanks to Angela at Becoming Me, for this fun Easter-time carnival.

Apologizing in advance for the poor quality of the photos. They are old. Like me.

I believe this was my first Easter, since I was born in October. This is my father, Virgil, who is now 87. Everyone has always called him, "Bud," which fits. I think you can see by the size of my cheeks compared to his that Bud regularly sacrificed all of his food down to the milk for his coffee to me. This is a sweet tradition that continues today,
as I always steal his dessert at family get-togethers.
What's he going to do? Spank me?

This is the youngest of my three brothers, Donald
[or Donnie, or Don, or Don Diego].

He grew up to be 6'4", so it shouldn't surprise you to note that
he is three years old in this shot. Ha. Just Kidding.

And here he is at four. My, how he grew. Note how I'm beginning to resemble
Nellie Olsen from Little House on the Prairie. Lucky me.

Here I am again. Please note the living room of American suburbia, circa 1965, especially the flying zebras.
Also notice how I was already prepared to take over the
"knee cymbalist" position in the local orchestra
should that chair become vacant.

And here I am looking more precious and preciouser by the moment. How did my brothers compete with all this preciousness? (Gag.) I'm sure that I was not coached to do this because this is the type of child I was, very narcissisitic. Whew. Sure glad THAT'S in the past. Now let's cut the chatter about my brothers and move on to more pictures of ME.

This is 1972 or 73, the years of the big floppy hats and white go-go boots,
and I had both. My boots were a crinkly kind of wet-looking plastic.
Can I get a big 1970s "Sock it to me?"

And here I am at another Easter, I'm guessing around 1975, which would make me 13 going on ... platform shoes. I was mortified years later to see how short this skirt was. Why did Lucille and Bud let this dress pass inspection?? Please note the piano which is the one Kristin (Pink Floyd Cramer) plays now. In 1975, I was learning to play "The Way We Were," and that is indeed Barbra Streisand's pic on the sheet music. Note that my shoes and the La-Z-Boy are made of the same material: Naugahyde, from the exotic animal which became extinct after 1979, the "Nauga Vinyllius."

Please go see Angela by clicking on the button above, where you will find all sorts of Easter topics from the meditative to this kind of stuff. Thanks, Angela!

Love the pictures.....in the last picture where you are sitting in the chair I have to say I had those very same shoes! Isn't it fun to walk down memory lane? Sometimes on Thanksgiving my kids drag out all the photos and videos!

I don't have many pictures from when I was young, which is probably why I take a bazillion pictures a day now. However, with you and I being about the same age, I can be all nostalgic in regards to the vinyl shiny boots that didn't breathe so it left your legs all sweaty, and the too short skirts. I never had Nellie Olson hair, but I did have lots of back-combing.

This post makes me to want to reach for my photo album. Thanks for your courage in showing us the platform shoes. ; )

Oh, my... we certainly were raised in the same era. I think we may have even had matching outfits some years! Ha! I wish I had access to some of the pictures my mom has of me in my "new-just-for-Easter-outfit."

Blessings!

Your parents let you have go-go boots?! You sinner!

But they obviously weren't brave enough to take a pcture of them! LOL

Those are great. Love the white border around the pics and the little date at the bottom.

And I bet your TV had the little white dot in the middle that took a while to disappear after you turned it off, didn't it?!

You were stylin' even back then. The last picture is my favorite though. I think my mom had that same dress in a very similar picture (hee hee).

your house looked like our house...i was learning the theme to romeo and juliet at my lessons...
you've given me the bug to scan some of my 70's pics...at least i have a body in those pics.
my favorite jeans then were hip huggers with bell bottoms about 2- feet wide(which my mother ensured my shirt fell a foot below the top of the pants)
you were adorable...especially loved the gloves. How many easter bunnies came to your house? I see multiple gifts.

We never got a velvet chair...but i loved sitting in them at neighbors' houses, rubbing the arms as we watched cartoons.

Loved the pic of the stereo in the background of the 'precious' picture. We had one like that! Cracks me up...it's a stinkin' piece of furniture and now my daughter has every song she owns on her ipod on her night stand. Crazy, huh?!

Oh...don't forget to sign up on My Mr. Linky so people can find you...I feel kind of funny writing that, because you have quite the readership built here...but...you never know, and I promised one reader a $10 gift and it is contingent upon visiting the linked blogs. :-)

the "Nauga Vinyllius." lived at my house too! All my friends homes were decorated with beautiful brocades and tapestry.... but mine?? -white naugahide couches!

Thank you for such a fun post... I could totally relate!

Okay, this is kinda creepy Lid. Some of your photos look like my photos. I showed them to my hubby and he was surprised to find it wasn't me. How weird is that? Your one Easter dress, sleeveless with big ribbon positioned below the waist? I had that EXACT SAME dress! Guessing our mom's liked to shop at the same stores. There used to be a Federal's Department Store where we did most of our shopping. Did y'all have a Federal's too? The company went under in the late 60s I believe.

Anyway, enjoyed your trip down Easter Memory Lane. In the immortal words of Yogi Beara, This is like deja vu all over again.

You always make me laugh, Linda!

There were similar mid-70's photos of myself in skirts at least that short. In fact, I remember one in particular of my mom and I. My dad shot the picture of us in the front yard one Sunday morning, right before we left for church. My mom's skirt was only slightly longer than mine, and we were wearing matching white go-go boots.

I'm sure we'd both cringe to see that picture now, but alas, I think it went the way of most of our family photos, up in smoke, when my folks house burned in '90. The house burning=bad. The disappearance of picture proof of mini-skirted, go-go booted mom and daughter=good. ;-Þ

You know how much I love me some old photos! These are awesome and your dresses only get better with time. And I LOVE the shoes in the last one.

You need to use these for this weeks 'Fro Me to You! :-)

Showing a little too much leg are we? I think they have revived the nauga and they are making a come back. I know you will want to rush out and buy more shoes.
