Friday's Fave Five

My pal, Susanne, at Living to Tell the Story does a weekly meme that I'm participating in today.

My theme is: Healthy Foods/Snacks!

Here are five of my faves this week:

I eat one to two flavors daily. It is the new ice cream. They even have white chocolate and Boston Creme Pie.

I get this at Wowmart, of all places. What makes it good is that it has a light breading that is oh so flavorful. Sun-dried tomato, garlic, Parmesan and spices. 220 calories per fillet. I am not a seafood lover. I do not even tolerate most of it. But this is surprisingly mild and full of Omega-3s. Bakes in 20 minutes. I'm eating this several times per week.

The Kashi bars of love which I mentioned Tuesday. Full of fiber and flax. And yumminess. Love them crumbled in the yogurt.

Almonds. I'm eating 1/4 c. a day. Very good for you. And in my favorite food group of all time. I could be a squirrel.

I know. You think they're fattening. Not so much. One half of a medium avvy is 140 calories. So I eat one mixed with extremely low-cal salsa on raw veggies instead of chips. Also like it mashed in pico de gallo.

Thanks for the meme, Susanne!

Ooooh, I love the Boston Cream Pie yogurt. Delish. And almonds. And pumpkin spice anything. And avocados. Had some last week, in fact. Good taste, lady.

Great choices, fellow squirrel! But you should have more respect for the Avocado.
"avvy?

I love the boston cream pie yogurt. The kids call it cake gogurt.

I love salmon... I need to get to a WOWmart! Almonds too! And Avvys...GMTA. :-D

Awesome. I like your snack choices. It's surprising what things we think are fattening and bad for us that really aren't that bad, such as nuts and avocado. Walking is going great. I'm enjoying it very much. Just wishing for a sunny day to walk in. We're floating away down here in Georgia.

Lid, why are your snacks so healthy? Mine fav 5 would be:

1. Starbucks ice cream
2. Hershey bar
3. Frappuchino....
You get the idea.

I'm just plain jealous that you are getting so in shape and I am so out of shape. (yes, I know there is an answer to that..it's all up to me).

I will just remember the Blue Bunny post and feel better about myself. LOL!

You listed some of my favs too! I love nuts of all kinds and feel deprived and starved if I don't get my "helping" of nuts every day... several times a day if possible!
I haven't seen the wild salmon... I'll look for it and try it... The Kashi bars .... yum! I love the raspberry/dark chocolate... and I have to hide them so I don't inhale the entire box at once.

So far your recommendations are at 100% approval for my taste buds. Love the Kashi bars. So I'll try more of these. Thanks - I love variety.

Several years ago I started blending one of the yogurts (I love all of the flavors)with 3-4 heaping tablespoons of Fat Free Cool whip. I then freeze it and eat it the next day. Oh my goodness. It is such a treat and I have it at least 5 times a week. Very low in calories and it takes me a while to eat. Feels like I am getting a guilty treat.

i'm so with you on all these snacks...
loving all those new flavs in yogurt!
i've got to pack my cooler for retreat ('cause they're not gonna be serving any of these kinds of healthy snacks)
Our cooks are wonderful and they indulge the kids when we have breaktime...chocolate chunk cookies, ice cream sundaes, brownies...its gonna be a carb fest...so, i'll have to have my private stash of "better" things so I don't veer too far off the path while I'm gone.
Covet your prayers for our retreat and the kiddos really HEARING and TAKING TO HEART what God has preveniently prepared for them :)

I love yogurt and I love those flavors you mentioned. Unfortunately, I hate fat free and I hate artificial sweeteners so that leaves me in a dilemma with goodies like these. :v(

We're trying to eat more salmon. Read that to say I'm trying to sneak it in there as much as possible before they figure out what I'm doing. I'll have to look for these this weekend. Hopefully the Canadian Wowmart has them.

Thanks for joining in, Linda.

Yum - almonds and other nuts. I'm right with you on that. Yogurt I can do, but not that often. And I haven't seen an avocado that looks that perfect in forever. It's hard to find a really good one withou that weird off-taste.

Looks like some great healthy choices you are making. I love almonds! I also really enjoy avocados. Love it on toast with a little salt (Whole wheat high fiber toast of course!) :0)

Yum, I eat all of that. I have not tried the salmon, I guess I will have to brave Wally-World and see if I can find it, becuase you know I love that store and all.

I love Kim's idea as well, that sounds yummo.

I haven't tried the yogurts, but I want to. Your post, though, made me want to try all sorts of new things sans avocado...just don't like 'em. Other than that, I'm comin' over for snacks!!!

I love avacados, they are so delicious and good for you, I think I will put some on my grocery list! Nice suggestions here!

I didn't know there was such a thing as Boston Creme Pie yogurt. I'll have to check into that! Thanks for the snack food ideas.

Great Fave Fives this week! Hmmm, have we been reading the same books/cookbooks about eating for heart health? Thanks for the ideas!

I love thematic Fave Fives. What a wonderful list, Linda!

I give a hearty "Amen!" to the Kashi bars, almonds, and avocado.

By the way, I love your blog's colors, banner, and overall appearance.

Great list! I'm a huge fan of the avocado myself. I'll be on the lookout for that salmon...sounds wonderful.

The Kashi cereal bars are excellent as well and very low calorie only two points for weight watchers!

Loved your comment about people moving west. My bil who lives in IL told me only the ne'er do wells moved west :). My ancestors ended up on the Pacific Coast north of San Francisco. The ultimate in ne'er do well, huh?

I eat the same yogurt every day too! Re: the vote about your blog design? I was actually wondering as I waited for it to upload, if it always takes longer than most due to the coffee pouring thing? Don't know, but your writing is worth the wait, IMHO!

Islandsparrow said...

You're making me hungry - and I just finished supper! We don't have those dufferent kinds of yogurt here. I like Peach and strawberry - a bit boring but tasty.

Kim said...

The Boston Cream Pie is my favorite flavor!!! I can get four flavors of yogurt here: strawberry, peach, banana or vanilla. The End.

I like the Kashi bars, too, but my favorite had chocolate chips in I believe :-) Anything's better with chocolate!!!

Avocado is good plain, with a little oil and balsamic vinegar, mashed into guacamole, mixed in with salad...just plain good!

I wanted you to know that I am here and trying to move. . .just not able to blog about it since life swallowed me. I have cleaned and swept the front porch, same on the back porch, and just raked a bed for planting flowers.

My idea for your blog--though I already love your look--would be to do that whole Parisian thing you've got going on with your Robin's Egg blue room and your black and white dining room. . .and the French LOVE coffee. I think the black and white "toile" (yours isn't actually bucolic toile but still "toile-ish") with some of the blue mixed in and a lovely coffee cup would be GORGEOUS.

And match your eyes.

So how bad is it that I'm eating ice cream with bananas and carmel sauce and hot fudge while I read this?

Wow. I feel really bad right now.
I'll run it off in the morning! :)

Wow- thanks for the salmon idea- I had no idea!

I also like avacados, peanuts or peanut butter, almonds, walnuts (I don't like them but they're healthy), frozen blueberries.

Hugs,
Betty
