Because the Self I Am Now is Old

I don't recognize myself anymore. Because the self I am now is old.

Evidence:

I'm going to sit with a friend at a hospital today while her husband has surgery. In preparation, I packed like I'm leaving for the weekend. The only thing I'm leaving behind is pajamas and a curling iron.

I basically ate two breakfasts. I was worried I would get hungry too early, so I felt the need to "bolster" myself against dehydration and starvation. Because you know, people in hospital waiting rooms die of starvation and dehydration all the time.

I packed two pairs of glasses. One for reading and one for seeing far away. But I'm actually wearing contacts. I guess I am determined to see today. Good goal.

I will not bore you with the rest. I'm just sayin', you know you're old when small escapades become a big deal.

That is all. Must finish packing. Must find my shawl because I get so cold ....

We aren't old, we simply like to be prepared for an event that may take place during the hours we will be away from our head-quarters!
How many times in our youth did we have to stop at a Walmart or 7-11? How many times did we forget to eat and felt crappy?
I think you're marvelous! Perhaps because I'm even older than you, and can relate to each word written.
PS:I also keep a bag in my trunk during the winter with blankets, sweaters, mittens, an extra coat, hat and socks.

My husband and I determined that you are "old" when you really enjoy a caramel.

Did you not look at the picture on the top of you blog? That my dear is most definitely NOT an old woman.....you are just covering the boredom areas....nothing wrong with that.

If I take more than a cell phone anywhere my kids say I overpack. LOL.

I think it is smart to be prepared.. if that is being old... so be it...

You are not old, just prepared. You have learned that staying in the hospital means you will be forced to eat and drink what is there and you want to be sure that you eat and drink what you want. I think you are smart. Be parpared for everything. Were in the scouts when you were little?

I was really excited when I no longer had to carry a diaper bag thinking the days of carry everything around with me were over...apparently your giving me something to look forward too. or not. Thanks. ;)

Linda, you aren't old! You've just learned to be prepared. I mean you have children, a husband....and we're just used to taking care of everyone and now we've learned to take care of us! :-)
(Well, it sounds good anyway. LOL)

I look at it this way, being old and still able to get around (even with all the "stuff") is better than being old and bed ridden. So I'd much rather take all the "stuff" I might need than have to stay home to be with all my "stuff."

That was hilarious! You are a total crack-up. At least you don't have to pack for three little kids every time you leave the house! Now THAT makes me feel old. I miss the days of just grabbing my purse and going. :) But I wouldn't trade 'em for lighter travel. They're worth the trouble!

It's always better to be prepared than to forget something important! And you never know what'll be important.

I laughed out loud at this. It could be me : ) The other evening my husband came home and I was wearing my fleece in the house with a pair of fuzzy socks. I think he may have called me mamaw.

I hope the surgery went well!

I'm going to have a modified random on my blog on Wednesdays. It would be fun to see you there when you have time to play along!

Forget the old thing...
and think about the wonderful favor you are doing for your friend that needs you! That is what I would focus on!

Good luck, happy seeing!

Hahaha! So true and so sad!
I've been thinking it's time for bed at about 9pm! Sometimes I stay up all the way to 10pm just to prove I am not old! yah, that'll show 'em!

Well, Linda...I hope you remembered to make two copies of the map to and from the hospital. At your age the chances of getting lost or sidetracked are very, very real.
