Friday's Fave Five: New Experiences This Week

Each Friday Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts this meme that allows us to share our five favorite whatevers from our week.

Watch now as I share some favorites that were new to me this week (fade to fuzzy dream sequence):

1. New Recipe:

Crispy Sweet Potato Fries

2 lbs. large sweet potatoes scrubbed up real purty
1 T olive oil
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper

Preheat to 450. Halve the potatoes, cut into 1/2" wedges. Toss with oil, salt and pepper in bowl. Arrange single layer on nonstick baking sheet. Bake, turning once, until browned and crips, about 35 mins. Photo courtesy Recipetips.com

Fave #2: New exercise: Exercise Ball Crunch

This is what I'm learning at the gym I joined. It's different from regular crunches because your back flexes backwards over the ball before you come up, as opposed to lying on a flat surface. Other words: full range of broken vertebrae motion.

Fave new experience #3: Weeding a communal garden.

We are joining several couples in our small group in a gardening effort. Here you see me attempting my first-ever weeding session in our Victory Garden. It was tough. I mean, who knew vegetables looked so much like weeds.

New faves 4 and 5: These hilarious videos.

We make those sweet potatoe fries here, too, yummy. You can basically fry anything the same way and it's yummy. Maybe even worms, the Survivor contestants need only take along a bag of Italian seasoned bread crumbs and oil and they'd not have to worry about being grossed out eating slugs and such.

I was just reading about a community garden project in our local paper last night. Sounds fun to me. They were talking about giving a percentage of the produce to a food pantry. Cool. The weeding is a hot and sweaty job, that's true. So, what'd you plant?

The baby girl videos cracked me up! That is scientific evidence if you ask me. Were there any clips of boy babies doing the same? I'm guessing- not.

Thanks for the Five!
Heidi

those potatoes look great! did yours turn out like that?

those babies were hilarious!! I once (pre kids) had a friend's baby do that to me, so I talked gibberish right back and the baby looked at me and said "yes"!!! too funny!!

I've always been to afraid to try sweet potato fries. You really liked them?

I've been doing crunches on the ball since a trainer showed them to me. Want more fun? Put your hips on the ball and hands on the floor - do push-ups that way. As you get stronger, move the ball down until it's at your feet when you do them. Good times.

I'm so glad you posted the first video. Jay had been telling me about it, but I hadn't looked it up yet. Sooooo funny!

Sweet potato fries are really popular in restaurants down here. But I only see sweet potatoes in the grocery store in the fall and winter.

My back already hurts, and reading about your crunches made me cringe!

It's hard to tell where the garden ends and the dress begins!

Those babies are hilarious! I've always wished I could peek in a baby's mind and see what they're thinking.

Those videos are just too cute. I don't think I could exercise on a ball like that. My balance is atrocious.

I'll have to try those fries - especially since Cheeseburger closed.

Isaac loves my exercise ball. (and, yes, he uses it more than me)

The videos are great, the first one reminds me of Jaiyda.

Those videos crack me right up! Especially the baby in the car seat and how intently the dad is listening. LOL. Hmmm, how come guys don't keep listening that intently by the time the girl turns 40? Just a hypothetical question. ;v)

I love exercise balls. So much easier than the durn floor and a better workout and you can use them for way more than crunches.

I love sweet potato fries. I probably negate any nutrition in them though by dipping them in that chipotle mayo.

We love those sweet potato fries. We don't toss them in a bowl, though - we coat them inside a Ziploc bag so that the Tongginator can help.

Ok starting with the last...the videos were hilarious. Yum Sweet potato fries. I love their sweetness. I can't do exercise ball. I'd probably fall off it and break a hip! The only things that grows for me are weeds :0)
You are really stylin while you weed, girl!

I've been trying to perfect the sweet potato fry thing. Mine often come out mushy. Am I not making the slices small enough, I wonder? Hmmmmm. I've tried a recipe similar to yours but added 1 or 2 TBL brown sugar with the salt and pepper. Yum yum to my tum tum!

I'm catching up with blog reading after just posting that baby video "are women born this way" and thinking I beat everybody to it. LOL. I've watched it several times. I'll be posting Weds about my switcheroo update.
