More on the 30 x 5 and Commentary on Biggest Loser

Guys [Translated: Y'all]-- There are about 40 + of us doing this, and I anticipate we'll add a couple more! Imagine yourself sitting in a full classroom right now. Everyone sitting at a desk would represent a person doing the 30 x 5! Woo to the hoo!

So, yeah, this starts tomorrow. Not Monday. Not April 1st. Nope, right smack dab in the middle of the week, this week. Because you know what? If we keep waiting until the right time, whenever that is, we might put it off until the economy bounces back or until we're all living weightless in space, which we know is not realistic. I mean, we're talking trillions.

Anyway.

Remember: All it is is 30 mins. of any kind of movement for at least 5 days per week for two weeks. Then we're going to link up and talk about it. Because that's what we bloggers do. We talk about it. I think we'll learn from each other and learn more about ourselves. But I don't want to plant seeds.

Here is a list of participants. You should go say, "Hi! I'm doing this, too!" *EDIT: I'm now adding people to the sidebar list.

Biggest Loser Notes

OK, so, Tara, in the green there, I thought was a bit cocky in the beginning. My respect has grown leaps and bounds. The woman is a powerhouse. A brick house. A wrecking ball. And last week and this week, she took some hard hits from teammates and kept on ticking ... like the bomb she is. Go, Tara. You may have a potty mouth at times, but you deserved that $10,000 that you were robbed of.

Which brings me to this one. Helen. Initially, because of her age, she was a sentimental favorite of mine. Favorite no longer. A teensy bit mean-spirited and over-confident. Annoying. Helen, just because you say something with a smile doesn't make it OK. And you were mean to Tara. Now she is going to eat you alive. And she will probably giggle like you when she does it.

Running a close 2nd for Most Annoying Contestant is Filipe, who makes strange noises and swings from over-ebullient to King of Meltdowns at times.

This is Kristin. She is the first woman to lose 100 lbs on the air on BL. She's a hoot to listen to and seems to be genuinely nice. She's my other fave.

This is Ron, the dad of Mike, an 18 year-old who has lost over 100lbs. However, the usually affable Ron did indeed jokingly call Mike an idiot tonight for choosing the wrong trainer for the rest of the season. Harsh, Dad! And what I still do not understand about the show is why Ron was chosen to participate because although he certainly is a compelling contestant, his weak knees and shoulders hinder every. single. challenge. This is not the show for him, in my opinion.

These are my yogurt lids that I'm mailing in to the Biggest Loser Pound for Pound Challenge. When I started saving them, I didn't even register the link with BL. I was just eating a ton of yogurt and felt guilty every time I'd lick the lid and pitch it. The guilt got to me, and I saved them up and sent them in. So I guess Yoplait donates $.10 per lid to hunger relief or something. I'm not sure. I just succumbed to guilt, that's all.

At any rate, I am totally into this show, pulling for all of the people, laughing at crazy Bob and scary Jillian, and wishing I could get away for a month or so and work on my bod. But that's not gonna happen. So tomorrow, it's the 30 x 5 for me!

Linda - count me in, too...I need all the encouragement I can get. I'm hoping that at the end of two weeks you will decide to continue it,though, because I'm all about the accountability.

What's so funny is I just said to my Hubby that I am a slug! I don't move, at all, except for food!! So Saturday we loaded up, along with Higgins and went to the track for a walk! What fun! (of course Higgin's had to strut his stuff and pulled it off without a hitch, us on the other hand...geeze!)

I am joining in! Having some gall bladder issues, and may have surgery, but as long as I am able and not under the knife, I'm in!!

Sigh...you overlooked me. That's okay. I'm used to being the wallflower. I can handle the rejection....sniff, sniff. ;-Þ

Seriously, could you put my name on the list so I can be one of the cool kids, too? ;-) I already have your button on my blog. I even gave it top billing.

Every week, I tell Josh that I wish Bob would come over and train me. Love him.

I TOTALLY agree with all of your thoughts on the contestants. Some I started out liking, but then my feelings changed. Others have grown on me.

Somehow I manage to cry every.single.episode. I just can't help it.

I'm excited for tomorrow! Yahoo! :-)

So excited! I can do this... you can do this... WE can do this... yeah! Let's get with the program!

This is my first year watching the show. I agree about Helen. Way to go, Tara, for staying with it and coming back from taking all those hits.

I disagree about Ron, though -- the show is certainly working well for him since he has lost so much (I can't remember how much now) even though he can't do well on many of the challenges. I think it is an encouragement to some that you don't have to be young and a powerhouse to lose weight.

I'd love to go on the show if I had time, and if I didn't have to wear only a sports bra and shorts to weigh in (not even my family has ever seen me in that little, weight or no weight!), and if I could guarantee I wouldn't have Jillian. Yelling in people's faces isn't motivating to everyone.

Ready to start - I've got hubby joining me...woohoo!

I still don't like Tara but she is resilient. Okay, and she did kind of remind me of me with the car thing last night - they really shouldn't have ticked her off.

I agree completely about Helen and Ron. Kristen is my favorite and who I'm hoping will win. If I had to pick my trainer, it would definitely be Bob.

H-Mama said...

Count me in too! Simply 'wearing' my exercise clothes doesn't seem to be doing the trick! ;)

Andrea said...

What a great challenge, Linda! I'm in - I can't do anything crazy, as my knee is healing from an injury, but I can still do some pilates, yoga, and upper body strength training. It all counts! :)

seems like such a huge coincidence after writing my 2nd blog yesterday... to find this challenge. thanks for putting it in front of us! it helps to have goals and know that others are venturing into the same torture... err, i mean adventure! ;)

I'm in :)

Sometimes I do two things in one day, but end up only being active for 3 days. (Like toning and cardio in one day, then a day, or two, or three off).

I think my body would like it if I spread it out more.

I agree 100% about Ron, although now I'm glad to see him dropping some serious weight - but it makes me wonder why he couldn't lose 10 lbs when his son could help him out.

Audrey will be interesting to see at the end of the competition...I think she'll be a surprise to everybody, especially since they highlighted last night how she had struggled when she got home and gained 9 lbs. They're trying to fool us, i just know it...

eager to see what we learn during and after our 30x5...
thanks for hosting this...gets us excited in a different way

Wow. What am I gonna do? My nieces are coming over tomorrow because I am "The Big Fun" for Spring Break. I know. Sad.
I'll put up your kicky button and get a move on, chica-amiga.

5 days a week? For 30 minutes???? For how long do I have to do this??? Forever!!! Yikes! Okay. I certainly need encouragement. I've never, ever, ever been more inactive than I am now. If I'm dyslexic can I just do 5 minutes for 30 days????

Sigh! I'm in!

PJ said...

Oh no!! Am I a day late. Fine! I'll go for a walk tonight so I won't miss out on my 30 minutes today.

This is very doable for me! I think it's a great idea to get moving. I'll participate too! Thanks for coming by my blog today :)

P.S. I have a bit of a correction for you regarding my name on your sidebar!
It's Beth @ Blissful Blunders (http://blissfulblunders.blogspot.com)
Thanks!!!

Blissful Babe said...

Oh. Another thing. I can't feasibly start tomorrow as I will be in a car all day on my way to Dallas, but I know that I will be getting my 30 in for the rest of the weekend!! So I'll technically be starting on Friday and extend it by one day. :P

But I am SO in!

Beth in NC said...

Hi Linda. I just stumbled upon your blog from my friend Just Beth in NC (yes, our names are very similar). I am glad I found you. I have been losing weight since June (though now I am having to really start exercising) -- everything is loose and not a pretty sight. Plus I still have about 30 or 40 to go. Anyway, if you'd like to see my weight loss pictures, I have them in my navigation bar. I am going to follow you to stay encouraged in this process. (Sorry I wrote a book.)

Susan said...

I thought Tara was incredibly whiny the other night. And I don't get it...why she doesn't understand that she IS the biggest threat in the house...so if you're going to run with the big dogs...

I love Kristin! She's my fav.

I really think this group is genuinely kind and they really DO seem to like each other. I'm sure the producers are having to search harder for conflict than last season. Well, with Vicky, you didn't have to go far at all.

Anyway, I'm like you...wish I could get away, but can't. Guess that means I've gotta' walk!

Hugs,

Susan
