Pop Goes the Starting Gun

*EDIT: We are now over 50 strong. Go us!

Fill in this blank: "Today is the first day of the rest of your ___."

" ... life?"

Nope.

Your two weeks.

Because that's all this is.

Sure, we know it takes a lifestyle change to effect big results in fitness or weight management goals, but we're sticking to two weeks for now. So unless you have the life cycle of a fruit fly, we're talking about a tiny piece out of your big, big life, and we're talking that way on purpose.

Because how do you eat an elephant? No, not sauteed in garlic butter with a sprinkle of lemon. You eat him one bite at a time. And that's how we're approaching change--in attainable, small increments.

Pin a rose upon our noses on this very momentous day, for we have "gotten a clue," like that great smart-lady feminine icon of the 20th Century, Jessica Fletcha.

We are doing this without pressure, without angst, without guilt and without Oprah, believe it or not.

I'm happy to report to you that I have indeed graced the elliptical machine already, thereby allowing myself to face you.

I also took some before pics of myself wearing shorts and a tank top in my bathroom so that I could share my progress with you visually, but then:

I got ANOTHER clue, which was this internal siren: "Are you crazy?? In those pics, you look like one of those trees that someone built a house around. In this case, they built a bathroom around you. DO NOT SHOW THOSE PICS."

I had better listen to my inner Jessica.

So there you have my first 30 x 5 report: 30 mins. on my elliptical this morning, with my little dog, Zoe, watching me. This is my view from the machine.

Just so you know, Zoe thinks I am absolutely wonderful on my elliptical. It's like I'm a rock star. If she could talk, she would be saying, "How are you so wonderful on that big thing? You are amazingly, incredibly wonderful. I cannot take my eyes off of your wonderfulness." But in the interest of full disclosure, she also does this when I go to the bathroom. That is, when I am on the throne, she worships at my feet, much to my chagrin.

So what is your 30 x 5 plan/report today?

Ok I did my 30 minute of yoga, strenuous yoga, tonight after eating a bowl of ravioli. Not a really good idea! Couldn't even do the relax child pose! I don't want to get up earlier than I already do at 6 am so will need to find a time after work but BEFORE dinner!

Got up at 5:40 to start my "workout"....since I have no machines, exercise cds, etc. I just had to make it up as I went along...so for 30 minutes I MOVED!! Can't say I looked graceful, but at least I did "something" for 30 minutes!! And this is just day 1!!

Thanks for the push start!

Thanks for the correction. It's all good! These things happen. Especially when you've been all linked out. ;)

Cheers!!

I'm in for the challenge. I did my 30 minutes yesterday - a combo of Wii tennis and soccer with the dog.

Unfortunately, figuring out how to get the button on my site has stessed me out, so I'm just linking to your site. :(

Count me in too. I'll post the link and comments on my spot tomorrow with an update on my progress. Blessings, SusanD

....and we're off!

I'm doing my usual run this afternoon and will add in a pilates dvd!

Yay for everybody who is movin' today!

I jumped on my Wii this morning and got a really good workout! I even ran alittle! 30 mins...DONE! Love it!

Oops...I started *last* night. I went for a short jog and discovered that much more of me jiggles since the last time I went for a run. Ugh. Then I took my dog for a long walk in the rain, which was actually more fun than it sounds. Apparently, when she is wet she is mellow and much less inclined to rip my shoulder out of its socket every time we pass a house where a dog lives. Yea! Today I plan to do the same, although it's looking snowy outside so I may have to resort to the kids' Wii Fit.

HA! No pressure she says. No angst she says. No guilt she says...oh yeah...you aren't teaming up with Chatty Kelly to do your 30X5.

She ALWAYS follows through.

I've already thought of 5 excuses.

You can be sure that if I don't follow through, the entire world...., um entire blogging community....,er.. all the bloggers that read our posts will know.

Accountability- who came up with that word anyway?

I wasn't volunteering to do the 30X5. I was raising my hand to go to the restroom.

(it's raining today...)

OK, ok I know....

Well. Looks like I'll be doing at least 30 x 1 since I have to sweep all the debris off our driveway today from last night's hailstorm. I bet you had something to do with that, huh?

Betty said...

Thanks for visiting my blog! Your 30x5 challenge is what I need (but definitely NOT what I want!). OK, I'm going to try, even though I'm in a big slump right now. I will jog outside even though it's raining.

Hugs,
Betty

Hi Linda thanks for popping in for a visit. I don't know what this 30 x 5 thing is but I too have pictures...and my husband even took measurements before I met with the personal trainer. I don't like to exercise but I am loving the weight lifting. You go girl!

I NEED to jump into this one. I'm having a hard time balancing it all right now. You're right...it's like an elephant...I am going to do my 30 min. walk later this afternoon.

Hugs,

Susan

Is today here already? Wow, well, I got out of bed and shuffled around trying to get ready for work? But I guess that doesn't really count for this, does it? ;v)

Seriously, I'll probably get on the elliptical a couple of 15 min. times today. It snowed yesterday so an outside walk is out of the question 'cause it's freezing out there.

going to toning class at the gym. they have 45 minute "total body" classes at lunch time. :)

Okay, I exercised an hour this morning, because of course I am an over-achiever. :-)

My sister is so sorry she signed up for this gig - well, mainly just sorry that I SAW she signed up, because I am going to force her to follow through. Sisters are great, huh????

1 down - 9 to go. :-)

Even though I didn't sign up, I did 30 minutes on the eliptical today too.

I did my time on the elliptical today! Met my gym buddy and we also managed to throw in some crunches and push ups. Then we went across the parking lot for lattes. If that happened everyday, this 30x5 thing would be a breeze, BUT tomorrow I'm on my own. Hmmmm....

Rachel said...

Actually since it's pouring down rain today my plan is the elliptical too!

Woohoo - sounds like we're off to a good start. I did my time on the treadmill first thing this morning. Yeah me! Yeah all of us!

Mrs.Naz@BecomingMe said...

Very fun...I have not done mine ye, but soon the kids will be in bed and I'm going to do some stretching/light yoga...that may seem lame, but the sprained ankle (that I've had since Dec 7 and just saw the doc about today) has been crazy hurting today...but I will at least do some movement for 30 min...no holding me back. I'll report tomorrow.

Jackie @ Our Moments Our Memories said...

This is so awesome - thank you for doing it. I did an hour on my treadmill this afternoon, and also had big plans to do another 20 min. Taebo workout, but that just didn't happen - I'll give it a shot tomorrow!

One day down, nine to go. And I managed to do it without a treadmill on a day it poured in our area. Although I'm not sure if the 10 minutes I spent teaching the Tongginator to do the can can actually counts...

beckyjomama said...

Did my time walkin laps at the store ... lame I know, but I did NOT stop to shop, so it counts right?

My daily stats are on a sticky post at the top of my page each day!

PS - LOVE THIS!!!

I love this - tonight was my Zumba exercise class. This is the fastest 45 minutes of my life. And having 5 friends do this with me makes it fun too!!!

Keep up the good work ladies.

I jogged for 1/4 of a mile (I'm surprised I lasted that long), and then walked briskly for another 2 miles.....That took me about 40 minutes......including the slow walk for a cool down! :) Hey, it's a start! Woo-hoo.

elizabeth said...

OK, Day 1 complete and still feeling good about it. It was fun just now to read the comments everybody's left because it's almost like we really are all working out together.

Thank you for this challenge - looks to be fun!

you're right! trying to find the time and energy for 'health sake' is a bit of a challenge. i managed to squeeze it in... i wrote it on my to-do list. really! i did! next to laundry and starting supper. you fail to plan, you plan to fail, right? my hip joint and back were protesting the entire time, but they went numb after a while. :D feel great now! yay!

Linda said...

I did it!!!! I hated it!!!! But I did it and I'll do it again tomorrow, and the day after that, etc. Thank you for the challenge. That picture of Zoe is so adorable! My cat watched me while i walked on the treadmill. :)
