It's May 12th. You Know What That Means.

Then again, perhaps you don't know. Or then again-again, maybe you're just pretending not to know because today is the day: May 12th means Phase 3 of the 30 x 5 kicks off today.

"What, Lid? On a Tuesday?" Chatty Kelly will ask rhetorically.

Yes, Kelly, and you lurkers who are too timid to protest like Kelly does, on a Tuesday, because it's not against Levitical law or even the Nazarene Manual for us to start Phase 3 on a Tuesday. There is nothing sacred about starting anything on a Monday. I promise.

I also promised to reveal the super-secret totally organized plan for tweaking the 30 x 5. And it's a good thing I just thought of it I'm so detail-oriented and have it all together so that I have follow-through, right, Kelly?

Here's a hint about the tweak: look at the background of the phase 3 button. What does it remind you of?

No, we're not going to buy matching peacock exercise outfits.

However, I might pay good money to see some of you work out in this get-up. I believe she's working on her upper arms.

So no, it's not the peacock phase of the 30 x 5; those circles and the hint in the text box should make you think of: H2o. Water.

Oh, I know some of you are going to hate me for this.

We're making a concentrated effort to drink more water during the next two weeks.

How much, you ask?

You could do the traditional 6-8 8-oz glasses per day, but if you really want to know how much you should have, divide your weight by two. The quotient ...

"Quotient?" OH MY GOSH I'M SO BRAINY [Actually, my son's roommate just fed me the answer to my question, "What's the thing called when you divide numbers that's left over?" and somehow, he was able to unscramble that question and tell me, "quotient."]

The quotient is the number of ounces of water you need each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., drink 75 ounces of water daily. For those who use the metric system, well, stop it.

Now I know it's not easy to drink if you're not used to it. But don't you want to be California cool and carry a bottle with you everywhere?

Seriously, it's really good for you in so many ways. Just go Google it so I don't have to list the reasons here.

Today I consumed four 20-oz bottles, and my son's roommate confirmed that this is indeed 80 oz, so I'm more than good.

And I have been to the toity about 80 times, as well. The most frustrating time was when I went to Wowmart and had to go as soon as I walked in the store. Because once your kids get over the potty training stage, you never have to visit the horrible public restrooms very often ever again, until you get on a health kick and start drinking water.

But I'm in. I'll be ramping up my 30 minutes (minimum) 5 days this week and drinking like a tee totaling sailor.

And I'm seriously considering a peacock track suit. It's so Estelle Costanza.

Water is good! I've given up the soda, so water is my drink of choice these days! (However the Peacock thing might be fun, too! Phase 4??)

I'm in! Honestly, this is too easy for me because pretty much all I drink is water - after my coffee in the morning. : ) I'll start measuring though. I'll buy a cool bottle (is it BPH we don't need from soft plastic?) Then I won't drop my cell phone in my water glass in the center console in my car like I did last month. Oh yes, that was the end of that cell phone.

You want me to drink a bunch and then exercise? It's been too many years since my repair surgery. It's bad enough reading your posts...

Oh yeah. I'm in. And I so have a California cool bottle to carry. :) Blessings, SusanD

I just learned that water quotient thingy last week! So anyway...I walked 5 days last week and drank as much water as I could, watched the types of foods I ate and I lost 2 lbs. I was so happy!! I can't believe what a difference water actually makes!
Before that I was watching what I ate, walking maybe 3 days a week, not drinking water, and losing less than a pound a week. Listen to Lid ladies...she's right about the water quotient thingy.

I am in, but I am not a fan of water unless I am really thirsty. I guess if I carry it up to the school with me I will be forced to drink it, right??

This is actually a good challenge for me because I am having to get on a water-only liquid intake diet because of my kidneys, so I'm up for the water challenge.

(But I will not - WILL NOT - tell you how many ounces my "intake quotient" will be!)

However, I am leaving for the beach on Sunday, which means my daily exercise is going to consist of my playing in the ocean or propelling myself from one end of the pool to the other with a good book. And I don't feel the least bit guilty about it. :)

Between you and my hubby, who just happens to be going into the antioxidant water business, I am going to be sloshing! Now if I can just get the 1st phase going consistently.

Being the only man who is brave enough to enter this phase I must say that I have the advantage here. Because I am a man, there is a bathroom almost anywhere I am. So get ready for me to lead the pack here and I may just do a peacock chase in this one. BTW, I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster today. Wooo Hooo. Let's get physical.

Girl, I have been so OFF the challenge lately. Thank goodness for your funky '70s background on the new link. THAT will motivate me...not to drink water, per se, but definitely to get back my hot bod (i.e., all the girls in Dazed and Confused, my favorite '70s movie of all time). I love water, by the by (I love that saying). But I have become a bit overzealous about coffee lately and have all but given up any other beverages. So it is high time for me to restart the 30x5. Thank you for another kick in the butt.

I know I already commented, but I can't find my name on the role call over there- am I really in? I'm drinking the water and drinking the water and drinking...

Great! Yes, I'm still in... or in AGAIN, I should say... like I just completely blew the last one. Great advice about the water. I does work and you do exercise much more because you have to run to the bathroom often!

That is too funny...I live in California and I carry a bottle of water with me where ever I go...HaHa. But the real reason I do it is because I was a vocal performance major in college and have a master's degree in it too and our voice teacher forced us to carry a water bottle around with us and drink water constantly so...being the good student I was it stuck. The problem is I am a teacher now and we don't get a lot of potty breaks during the day, but your body does get used to it.

This is a great phase 3!!

Okay, well I already did my 1 hr today at the gym. (overachiever). So I will probably drink too much water and not be able to sleep tonight for all the trips to the bathroom.

I liked you better when you were eating whip cream right out of the spray can, and snarfing up Blue Bunny ice cream like there was no tomorrow. LOL! I'm JUST KIDDING!

Okay, So I need to drink 51 oz, right? LOL! That is a weight joke. I need to drink a wee bit more than that. Or should I say a "wee-wee" bit more. LOL! I am cracking myself up today.

THANKS for the shout out!

You know I've been wondering if that is one of the reasons I'm not losing weight. I need more water, and as easy as it is for some of you, it isn't my best habit, so I'll have to work to get in that much water. I struggled with five 8 oz glasses before. Maybe if I put a lemon in it...and definitely, buy the cool California bottle thingy. Okay. You talked me into it. I'm in.

Can I join in at phase 3 if I didn't do the first two phases? I hate using public bathrooms and when I drink all the water I should I have to go ALL the time.

Lois Lane II said...

I can soooo do this one because I usually drink 8-10 glasses of water each day!! =D

Debbie @Like a Rose said...

Okay, I'm in again - just starting a little late because I've been out of town for a few days and had no Internet access (Yikes!).

I do think the reason water helps you lose weight is all the extra exercise from trips to the restroom - the extra walking, the balance for hovering in public restrooms...

Is it okay to do Phases 2 & 3 at the same time? I'm taking a do-over on Phase 2 'cause life caught up with me and I kinda "phased out" for awhile.

Actually now that I think about it, I suppose these are cumulative (a rather good word, don't you think?) steps rather than individual stand alone steps. That means I have to keep doing Phase 1 and add on 2 & 3 at the same time. This wouldn't be so bad except that my graduating senior is quitting her newspaper route to get a "real job" for the summer. I honestly have no idea how I'm going to be able to kick myself in the backside to get up and get going without that daily encouragement!!!!

I suppose if all this came naturally or easy to us this blog would be rather lonely. I'm so glad I still have you and all the other participants for support!!
