Thoughts

Now that is a riveting, original post title. For Helen Steiner Rice.

Look, I've been at this for 5 years now, and I have never once used the word "Thoughts" as a post title, so I think if I want to just this once, I should be able. I've earned the right, like an old person who has earned the right to yell, "Get off my lawn!" to kids. You just get to say that after a certain time, so I just get to entitle my post, "Thoughts."

Because "Random" I've used a couple of times before.

George is working late tonight, so I decided, after work, to stop by Panera because it's been a long time since I've been there. "Long time" is a relative word, but it feels like a lifetime when I've gone for a few days without a Panera bagel or bowl of soup.

So I walk in and who do I see? My boss, whom I just saw 10 minutes ago and said goodbye to for the weekend. ("Oh, awkward hello again, Boss!")

Don't ya hate when awkward happens?

I'm having my beloved tomato bisque with the parmesan-ny croutons. And then I have bread on the side. Because, you know, "bread." I think someone once said, "Man cannot live by bread alone," but ... oh, I didn't mean to be irreverent. I know I have offended someone. I can see your offended face right now, Church Lady.

I also came in here to finally read some official papers that I've been putting off reading for about 2 weeks now.

These are not complicated papers, but they do have some amount of detail I need to retain. The subject matter is actually something I care about, too.

But guess what? Every time I look at the stack, I suddenly remember I've got something really important to do in the opposite direction.

Like blogging and eating soup.

So here they lie, stacked all nice and neatly on my table while I talk to you. The nice Panera employee just wiped a few tables around me and gave me a smile which might be saying, "Done yet? Done yet? Finished?" but I'm ignoring her. I wish I could rent booth space here.

Anyway, is there some task in life that you regularly put off? What is it? Why do you think you procrastinate completing the task?

Ok, time to put the blog away and get to the stack. As soon as I check my FB page.

I have procrastinated in organizing every room in my house for far too long, which is why I am living in chaos right now. Oh, my daughter works at Panera!

I have been procrastinating digitizing my boxes and albums of photos. But I am getting started on it.

Really I am.....

The tax organizer. I put it off til a couple days before it's due every.single.time. Plus it's not one of those things that if I dig in I discover it's not as bad as I thought and I can get it done quickly....no, it involves lots of looking for 'stuff' and just far far too much thinking. Can you tell I'm working on it now? Well, technically I'm reading blogs. I guess that answers your question.

Cleaning my desk. I procrastinate because it is so darn overwhelming! Don't want to disrupt my stacks.

Oh, and I love Panera. My family makes fun of me. I could do a whole post on Panera. Maybe I will!

Procrastination was my gold medal event for Random Dozen.

I put off lots of things, but mostly for the same reason--they just aren't compelling enough to move up the list.

Good luck. I guess I would say you'll tackle it when you need to.

You aren't seriously asking what all I procastinate on? You're joking, right? I'm Queen Procrastinator. I tell myself it's b/c I work best under a deadline. In reality, I think I'm just a tad lazy. Maybe it's b/c I'm OCD and want things the right way but don't feel like doing them.
I have put off doing the change of address for my driver's license. We've lived in our house for 4 year. And now it's expired & I have to actually go to the DMV to do it. Yuck.
I haven't filed our taxes, sorted pictures, or organized our bedrooms.

I think my favorite thing to put of doing would be cleaning. I hate it. I wait until the last minute & I just can't take it anymore.

Vacuuming and dusting. Really - I'd rather do my taxes than dust. Sigh.

I procrastinate cleaning my bedroom. Somehow I never get around to that room because it's at the opposite end of the house from where I always begin cleaning. Of course, now that I think about it...I procrastinate doing just about everything anymore...I need a round "tuit" to remind me to get around to it...I love your blog, by the way. I'm a "newbie". Have a great weekend! Kathy

I procrastinate every time I think about cleaning out the junk drawer. I can always find 100 things to do that are more important than cleaning that awful drawer.

Really procrastination is my middle and last name...oh and it is my first name too!!

Lately I have been procrastinating preparing a talk I have to give in a couple of weeks at a conference...oh and my taxes...oh and my lesson plans for next week, I better go now.

Oh Linda. I am the queen of procrastination! And it seems to get worse the older I get. I'm in trouble!

I put off going to the doctor for my regular appointments. I'm good at putting things off.

Enjoying your blog. In fact, I just joined your Random Dozen.

emptying the dishwasher
and
defrosting the downstairs freezer
I did the first today
but the second is still calling my name and i'm ignoring it until my headcold goes away...my freezer's one of those chest thingy's and i almost have to stand on my head to clean it out...
with all the benadryl i've taken it would be too big a risk...hubby would find me frozen to death or snoring while collapsed under the freezer door after no dinner being on the table at dinner time...so i'm really keeping him from such a traumatic event by putting it off more ... see i can justify just about anything :)

I need to organize and burn my photos onto CD´s! If my computer ever crashes, they are all gone!! I really NEED to do that....but then I start on FarmVille and time just flies by....!

too funny b/c this really hits home..especially meeting the boss you just said goodbye to. I'm gonna go eat soup...

Tomato soup and bread? Yum. The only thing better would be perhaps a chicken salad sandwich and tomato soup. I'm 37 weeks pregnant. I could eat a restaurant...rented booth space or not.

Organizing my photos, the real ones and digital both.
Giving my house a thorough cleaning and dusting.
Cleaning the oven.
Sorting out clothes to give away.
I could go on but I won't bore you.
But I do have a good excuse for the above. I have a 14 month old grandson that I take care of for 12 hours a day Mon.-Fri.? :-)

The stack right here beside me on my desk is the chore that never gets completely done. It includes mail, photographs, kids basketball schedules, invitations, a couple of napkins, coupons and so on. At least there is a drawer I can slide it into when I need to hide it all.

When I ran away from home last Sunday I ended up at Panera. Had the black bean soup. It was nice to just not have to talk to anyone.

Procrastinate -- usually it's making phone calls. I detest the telephone, but I'm supposed to call all the ladies in my small group each week. I'm really bad at it. I've given them a link to my blog, what more could they possibly need?

Susan said...

That is why I love you! We are similar like that...hope you got to the stack!

I could have written that post ...so me....I have a stack of paper work that
I HAVE to go through and organize TODAY.....HAVE TO

kcinnova said...

Just one thing?! I guess I'd say HOUSEWORK. But then there's the fun stuff: making cards, scrapbooking, beading. And the not so fun: organizing holiday decorations, putting away those stacks of things that need putting away.
I suppose I don't get all the housework done and then I think I can't do the fun things, either. So NOTHING gets done. Pffft.

I *LOVE* Panere's tomato soup...and I've been known to ask for extra croutons...

And re procrastination: I will admit here, where I am fairly anonymous, that we moved into our current abode 5 years ago and I...still... haven't...had...the...whole... house...clean...at...once...
Oh, the shame of it!
I feel better now, but I gotta sew a dress for my DD and I can't do any serious cleaning. Maybe Monday... ;)

Panera is such a great place to eat, my mom and I love it when we have our "girl days". I do reccomend that if you want to stop procrastinating Facebook isn't the best place to go ;) Just ask me and my Girl Scout Gold Award Advisor :)

I actually read this blog, since I used it to prove to my little brother how long blogs really are. It also helped me come up with a blog for tomorrow :)

I love your blog, it is just so funny sometimes, that and it has the Random Dozen

Oh this so me except for the sitting @ Panera by myself part. I am lucky to have a min to yself with 4 active rugrats. I have been putting off pics in frames for going on 6 yrs now. They are two mates with poems and I just have to add 4 pics. I know, I am terrible. Oh well I will get to it one year, I am sure of it.

MERs (monthly expense reports). I've been known to go six months at a stretch between those. But come the beginning of January there's no more putting it off because unfinished MERs means muchos problemos con impuestos.

You know the list of 100 things...the ones that bloggers use to tell about themselves? Well, I could make that my Procrastinator's 100! plus, one....

Just waaaay too many things to admit here in your comments. My favorites are the same as Robin's: putting receipts in checkbook, balancing checkbook, and laundry.

I see that I am joined by a lovely mob of procrastinators in commenting on your hilarious post. I laughed out loud at your "hello CHURCH LADY".

I procrastinate on cleaning my desk. It's really awful. My youngest daughter used to MAKE me do it, but alas, in her absence, there's no one to make me. The stacks are very large. At least there are stacks.
