Observations from the Back Yard Deck

Observation from the deck #1: Little bird chasing chipmunk. Chipmunk hops away a little, then bird hops to chipmunk. Scene repeats about 5 times. Very sad. Some relationships are doomed from the beginning.

Observation #2: Summer is officially 6.21, but the surest sign of its arrival here is the sound of the neighbor's 5 children fighting each other and crying over the trampoline/pool.

Observation #3: If you are trying to lose weight, you should probably not build yourself a salad in a bowl that is roughly the size of the flower container pots on your deck.

Observation #4: Elderly man living in the condos behind us rides his bike up the side street each night, stops at the same point, dismounts, gathers sticks, lays them by a tree, rides home. Same routine each summer. Affectionately known as "Stick Man" to us. Always wears pastel matching ensembles, usually featuring the ever popular "papaw blue."

Observation #5: When it is 85* and you are sitting on your deck drinking coffee, they might as well send you your AARP card now. You are old.

Lid - I can see from the photo -- you DID get the centurion sandals, if only the abbreviated version! HAH!!!

#1 - hope little bird doesn't grow up to be big predator bird. Actually, this reminds me of the Fox and the Hound. Amazing how Disney brainwashed us into thinking that animals would behave like people if you just 'taught' them differently!

#2 - buy ice pops (they're like $3 for a zillion in a box), when the fighting gets too noisy, toss only 2 over . . . then when the noise stops, and they start looking around, toss the other 3.

#3 -- depends on what you put on the salad

#4 - God bless stick man. He has a purpose for each day! When he's not around, you should rearrange sticks into a rune. Let him think the aliens are watching...

#5 - you are NOT old! Because if you are, I am.

I am really old and I can identify with sitting on the deck drinking coffee, but I don't think you are ready for the "papaw blue" out fit yet.

I've been giving Ted cr*p for about 8 mos now...AARP sends him a card and an invite every month since he turned 49....our neighbor kids fight over their tramp (en espanol) and then ask what I'm grilling and can they have some....sigh.

Ha! yah, the only downside of lovely summer is hearing my neighbor kids fighting...especially in a swimming pool which I do not have!!

Old man routine?? With your curiosity & desire for a good story, why haven't you asked him why he is doing that? Very strange!

About # 3. PLEASE don't take away my delusion that because it is "salad" I am being good ok? Mine are huge in the summer time & I feel so superior!

Love reading you, been a long time huh?

Summer is here alright. Today is my kids last day of school. I'm still trying to figure out what to have them do during the summer break so I won't lose my sanity with three of them home.

Sometimes, it's really great to just sit and enjoy everything around us because we're busy bees and hardly ever stop to smell the roses.

I really must know what Stick Man thinks he is doing? Do you know?

Isn't observation just delightful...I believe God intended for us to spend more time observing His wonders than we do.

I will make it a point to just 'observe' this weekend!!!

Thanks!

I think I'll go sit on my deck, with my coffee, and observe. But I draw the line at wearing pastel matching ensembles. I have to leave the neighbors guessing a little bit as to my age.

I have a neighbor I'd like to introduce to "stick man". We call her "bathrobe lady". Never seen her in anything else. AND it is usually a pink one that would compliment the "pawpaw" blue!

You are lovely. . .and I'm not quite sure fom WHERE the weight you profess needing to lose will come.

Summer has also arrived here on the Texas Gulf coast. . .along with 95 degree temps and 99% humidity. . .

I am VERY curious about Stick Man.

oh my gosh...i cracked up at this post...you are great! PLEASE find out what is up with Stick Man. It might be some kind of weird religious rite or something..I am sure you could do a great story about it! lol....man, my neighborhood is downright boring compared to where you live...we rarely hear any kids...sadly they are in day camps all summer...well, except for mine! And I sit on my deck every morning I can other than Dec-March and drink my coffee.....and 50 aint old. I call it 100 divided by 2....my goal is to live to be 104. Eating salads....HUGE ones will help me get there! :)
