Shout to the Lord

Weren't you blown away by this? I was.

For some reason, at the end of this video, the person who posted it left Ben Stiller doing his schtick and part of that act includes being bleeped, and it's completely weird after seeing that big inspirational song, but there will be better versions soon.

People in bloggyland are already talking about it: "What's this all about?" "Is this commercialization of religion?" "Are they playing the religion card?" I can't presume to know any producer's motive or any performer's level of belief/worship ... I don't care. It was beautiful!

I just think that the greatest Giver of all was honored on a show about giving and love. My spirit did indeed shout to the Lord. I'm not going to let anyone dampen my joy. Nothing compares to the promise we have in Him, does it?

Edit: itunes has the full song WITH reference to Jesus.

*Please pray for my friend, Diane, today. She is in my life group. Today is probably the day when she will find out exactly where the cancer originated that has left her weak, in pain and understandably fearful, although she knows Jesus. This is heavy on our hearts 24/7 right now, but especially today. Thanks for saying a prayer for peace for Diane.

Did they really sing SHOUT TO THE LORD on Idol?? I MISSED THE WHOLE THING!! We have Praise Band practice on Wednesday nights, and we were learning some new stuff. I just got home about 20 minutes ago. MAN! I can NOT believe I missed that. I too, will be excited to see it on Youtube. Thanks for the heads up! Night-night!

Oh my... I missed it. The kids are on Spring Break and we went to the movies. I can't wait to watch it on TiVo.
It really was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I loved it. I did notice that they sang "My Shepherd, My Savior" vs. "My Jesus..." But I continue to wonder when I hear the name of Jesus being sung about on there...including Mariah Carey's song. I liked it.

I just downloaded it from itunes. What a great version of this song! (The itunes version says "My JESUS, my savior.")
Anyway, my DVR stopped recording it just before the end and we were bummed...but because I can always count on my bloggy friends to keep me informed...I was able to see it! Thanks girl!

I tell ya, I was just baffled last night. My husband sat there in shock when Mariah sang and I said, "Well maybe Dolly started a revival on Idol". Then when they sand Shout (a song we all regularly sing in church - what?) I was dumbfounded and speechless.....I am NEVER speechless! WE SPECULATED: What's it all about? Has Simon found the Lord? Is Randy going to join Kirk Franklin?
THEN at the end.....it all came back to reality with Ben Stiller and his f-bleeps......I knew it was too good to be true! I just knew it!

I don't know that Ben Stiller's thing was done in direct correlation to the last song, but it was tasteless for the directors/producers to place it there. Still, it was good. Don't let that last part rob the fun and blessing of the song to we who love it.

We were dumbfounded!
Loved it.
I'm thinking Reuben Studdard recorded a version of it, right?

My DVR cut it off, too, so I didn't get to see it. Thanks for posting! That truly leaves me speechless like Bethanne said. Amazing. Although, it was a bit anticlimactic at the end with Ben Stiller? Couldn't they have just left it alone??

WOW! Way cool! How cares their motives! The Lord was praised! Even if they meant it for other motives! God was praised! How cool! Way to take it back God!

I know that we're all happy that they sang it, but what about the people who aren't? What about the people who feel that their "rights" were trampled over by having that shown. You know there were people who felt that way and who instead of just shutting it off will complain about it. I suppose after the song instead of Ben Stiller they could've done a muslim call to prayer or a reading from some other religious book. Would that have made us just as upset? Maybe the Stiller thing was just a way of catering to the other half after that beautiful song? I'm not saying it's right, just saying that we need to think about it. Like Linda said--don't let what came afterwards affect what came before. As I'm sure others are saying--hey--don't let what came before affect the 'hilarity' of what came afterwards. Always two sides to every fence I suppose.

Loved it, loved it. Made me cry. They took a risk with that. I'm sure there will be plenty of emails in Foxes box this morning.

Praying for your friend Linda!

SOOOO happy that they did "Shout to The Lord" - It was such an unexpected surprise. However, when it first came on, I immediately noticed that they didn't sing "My Jesus"...I was like WHAT???? I screamed to my husband Dolly Parton sang all about "Jesus & Gravity" why couldn't they sing it? I don't understand why they left it out if they put it in the iTunes version. Why not just do it to begin with you know?

I thought though that the Ben Stiller thing was OK afterwards if they *left out* the cursing/bleeping. I honestly thought it was in poor taste. To have the funny thing after is OK, but to put the cursing/bleeping thing afterwards was just not right. I was SO glad Mariah sang about Jesus too! Love it!! Dolly started something.

Got to see the Meat Loaf commercial again. Can you believe it, I don't think that is his son, it is an actor because I thought he only had daughters. Great casting if it isn't his son!

By the way, God forgive me, but I really could have dealt with not hearing Teri Hatcher sing a C.U. cover. LOL!

How cool is Bono? Annie Lenox is wonderful as well. They both had me in tears!

Ack, I missed it too! Thanks for posting it though. I'll say a prayer for your friend.

This was GREAT! Of course I missed it last nite as I turned it off after my youngest heard Miley! I THINK IT IS GREAT! And who cares what the motives are??? The Lord gets the glory when His Praises are sung!

WOW!!! I missed the episode on tv. I think it is wonderful that they chose that song.

Even though they changed the words a bit, the message will still come across.

I posted the video on my blog, as well. I was certainly impressed.

From the first time I heard this song, I felt the anointing of His Love poured out! Jesus's, that is. I will say it. I love that they sang Shout to the Lord and I love that God may be cool again! Really in my little world, it doesn't matter if He's cool, but to a whole generation who missed His Love, I pray they saw a glimpse tonight. Your friend, Diane is being lifted up this very hour as I pray for her peace, comfort, and healing, and for you to be a comfort to her and know His peace beyond understanding. Love, Annette

DIdn't get to see it live, but have loved watching the clip on youtube and reading everyones thoughts....all over the place aren't they???

But, i'm perfectly happy and fine with the version! It was just awesome that they did this on AI, on regular tv, in front of millions!!!

Hearts were changed. Oh yes ma'am they were. I just know it.

And, praying for your friend. I hope there is peace on her sweet heart tonight.

They did "Shout to the Lord" again tonight and this time said "Jesus" instead of "Shepherd." Could some higher-ups have possibly read our blogs? That's gotta be it. We've changed the world.

That's pretty cool.

During Season 1, we bought the CD, and I remember pretty much every contestant on the CD, which was the top 12 as I recall, put lots of Praise Jesus in their individual comments. It was surprising, and awesome.

Linda!!! I forgot to mention that i was going to pray for your friend Diane. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the comment..you knew I would be upset about my #2 man going tonight. Sigh, big..big sigh. I blogged about it and posted a very 'nice' pic of him. I still think he will do wonderful.

Yay!!! They re-sang the song tonight and added "My Jesus" in the beginning. American Idol redeemed themselves in my eyes. (trying to forget the Ben Stiller thing at the end..LOL)

I couldn't wait to get over here this morning bec. I knew you would have posted something about this..

last night, I heard the word Jesus ... and I went flying back to the greatroom... and there it was on AI... I had left the room for only a few seconds...

I could NOT believe what I was hearing... I yelled for my husband to hurry and come to the room to witness it...

we stood in awe...

I'm like you... I don't care the reason.. but only that it was done...

I'm sure there will be much said for days to come

YAY! Love that song. Beautiful performance. Ben's little act made me wrinkle up my nose though.

I loved that they sang this song on Wed night, but was sad that they sang my shepherd rather than my Jesus. The part where Ben Stiller came out really was out of place and they should have just ended it with the song.

I was happy that last night when they did the song again, they included MY Jesus where it belonged. I wondered if it was due to all the comments about the night before where they changed it...

Still and yet-Im glad that they used this song. It was amazing to hear God lifted up on national TV on one of the highest rated shows.

Thanks, Linda for sharing this! I've heard so much about this song being sung! It's so true and I needed to hear this again tonight... "Nothing compares to the promise I have in Him". Praying for your friend, Diane!
Love to you,
Angie xoxo
