The Hair Apparent

I have a three o'clock appointment to get a cut. Or a trim, if I chicken out. I like this one at the left because I'm not so into the sleek look that has been popular for, oh, the last 25 years or so. I like messy hair with messy parts. I like texture.

Now, I really, really think the one on the left is cute. Notice it is layered and not so sleek. The one next to it, I do not like. However, three years ago, when my eldest graduated, I got a short cut, the shortest of my life. I liked it for about 36 hours. And I've been growing it out ever since. THAT'S THREE YEARS, PEOPLE. So whatever I do, I know I do not want this:

Many people have told me I looked older with this haircut. Well, that is the kiss of death in hairstyles. My daughter says it's because I curled it under. (?)

I have had it similar to this one before.

And these two are just a'ight.

I have also gone darker and redder before, but they don't stay because I killed my pigment. I go blonde in just a few short weeks. Which is OK, because when you grow up being very blonde, it's hard to think of yourself as otherwise, just the same as you brunettes, if you suddenly went blonde, you'd think, "This isn't even me." So that's why I pretty much stick with blonde, anyway. This pic was taken on my 43rd birthday. I felt ugly and heavy. So please don't tell me you like this one.

Anyway, that's what I'm thinking about today. It'll all be over soon. And it's only hair, right? It'll all grow out, right? Even if it takes me years as compared to your months to grow out. Oh well. Perspective: I have hair. I am not going through chemo. It's only hair.

You're right..alot of people wish they had hair and had to make a decision on which hair cut to get...but on the flip side: the first pic is the best cut!lol

Can't wait to see what you decide to do. These are the hard decisions in life! Seriously. I'm totally with you.

I'm the opposite -- I don't like the messy look, but my hair won't do "sleek." I need to make some of the same decisions. I'd like to find a stylize who could tell me what would look best within the limitations my hair has. And I am thinking about coloring for the first time ever -- since being offered senior citizen discounts a few times and being mistaken for my youngest's grandmother!!!

Ok, just my two cents --

First photo -- good but pretty much what you already have.

2nd/3rd -- you'll get a Victoria Beckham cut no matter what you say. Which could be cute, but it will definitely be short.

Skipping 4th/5th because you know you don't want those --

6th/7th -- a little long and fussy. You'll have to curl it every day.

8th/9th -- I actually really love both of these. I think you could totally pull off the one on the right, which is a little longer. Messy, layered, cute, blonde. Nuff said.

How did you kill your pigment? I'd love to kill mine and go blonde. I was blonde growing up, have the brain of a blonde, and was blonde for years. Then I gave up and just went with whatever colour my roots were. I'm thinking I need to lighten up again.

You're right! It's only hair and has no eternal significance! Hand me another hair magazine!

Smooches!

I'm sort of opposite. I'm a long hair wanna be and I've tried to grow it out but I just start feeling like it's dragging my whole face down. As soon as I get it cut I feel great. I wish I had to guts to get one of those super short pixie kinds of cuts. Hubby would have a cow though. (Is that just a Canadian term? LOL!) I find too, that when I do get a new kind of cut I have a bad habit of eventually returning to "styling" the same old way. Comfort zone or habit, I guess. Anyway I really think that second cut is great! Makes me want to grow my hair out! :v) I can hardly wait to see what you picked.

I'm not into sleek-every-hair-in-perfect-place, but I don't get the messy-just-got-out-of-bed look either.

But whatever you pick I know you'll look darling 'cause you have such a sweet smile and fun personality!!

Just be sure to WEAR your contacts when you go to your appointment!! :-)

Well Linda, you always look pretty, but I really do love blonde hair...I would be a blonde if I could, but that apparently was just NOT in God's plan for my life!

I think hair a little longer on forty-something women actually makes them look younger, if it's a cute style and not just hanging there.

As a woman's hair goes, so goes her day--a Texas proverb possibly just created for this occasion. However, true it is! I like the first cut a lot also. Keep us posted. And you are definitely a beautiful blonde!
Love you,
Annette

If you ever were to go short again, I think you might be able to do this look quite well (actress Amanda Tapping)

Oh I'm soooo glad to know I'm not the only one who goes through these kinds of things.

I like #1. I have tried to have #1but my hair always ends up looking kind of stringy by the end of the day unless I use a half a bottle of hair product on it.

And I totally get the blonde thing...being blonde an' all.

I completely love the first picture. Can't wait to see what you end up with. And you are right...it's just hair and you have it. It will always grow. :)

Do I get to vote??? I like the second one -- the gal with the pink bows on her shoulders -- the hair is in chunks, I like that little piece that follows the chin line. But if you were unhappy with short before -- you might try that first one. It's really chic and with it (But I'm much older than you -- I haven't been with it for decades!! But a 13-year old wrote in my yearbook today that my shoes are "intense" I think that's good?) That messy texture thing is very good -- It's a bit longer you might be happier.

I don't like the one of you with brown hair--it doesn't look like you. The first cut is really cute. Also, you have one of those faces that looks good with shorter cuts, not round like mine. Post pictures of your new cut!

Yep, hairstyles are tricky! I'm like you, I grew up with bleached blonde hair. Even when I met my husband he could believe how blonde my hair was. After each child my hair got darker, but ya know I still see myself as a bleached blonde!

So when do we get to see the picture of the new do?
