I See What You're Saying ~ Christmas Edition!

Way back in August, I introduced "I See What You're Saying," a concept which I have since learned is called a "vlog carnival" (video + blog = "vlog"). However, today, Merrie at Merrie Days coined a new term through a typo (my favorite kind of mistake) wherein she called my blog a "flog," and then proceeded to cover herself by saying "flog" is a combination of "fun" and "blog."

I had the same reaction as Charlie Brown when Lucy the psychiatrist asks him if he has pantophobia, the fear of everything, and he says, "That's it!" and Lucy gets bowled over backwards into the snow.

That's It!!! "I See What You're Saying" is actually a FLOG CARNIVAL, and who doesn't want to be part of a FLOG CARNIVAL?

Anyway, back in August when Al Gore and I came up with the "I See" concept, we just thought it would be sorta fun to actually see and hear people posting rather than just read their words as we usually do, so I made a call out for video posts.

SORTA FUN?!

Oh. My. Gosh. It was SO fun!

It took two or three days to view all of the videos! I've never gotten so much positive feedback on anything I've attempted since I started blogging.

Many people asked about the next event as soon as that one was over, so I had to decide the "if, when, how" of the 2nd "I See." After all, too soon and too often = overkill. Once/twice a year could squash momentum. Therefore, I decided to do the next one quarterly, which planted us squarely on December 30.

I think the beauty of this date is that we will be past the busyness of the season, but the wonderfulness of the season will still be fresh on our minds, in our homes and in our hearts--plus many of us will have had our cameras out anyway creating Christmas memories. I am waxing so eloquent here I hate to transition.

But let's transition. The options are endless as far as the subject of your video. You could show us your decorations, your favorite gifts, your kids singing a carol, your pet in a Santa suit, the snow or the balmy winds of where you live, your best Christmas recipe, what your New Year's Eve plans are, or even your resolutions. Or you can be completely original and post about which celebrity should be cast in the movie of your life's story! Anything goes!

Well, anything except nudity. This is not "I See What You're Hiding Under Your Christmas Robe, 2008."

Other than nudity and Neil Diamond music, it's all good.

You know, Neil Diamond's voice is like egg nog--people are either really into it or wad up their faces in a grimace when it's mentioned. I fall into the latter group and can therefore ban Neil because this blog is the only place where I have some semblance of power and authority. Therefore, no nudity and no Neil. Those are the only rules. Because I made them up just now.

All you need to do is make a short [a-hem. The "short" reminder mainly applies to me.] video, post it on Dec. 30, pop over here to link up, and then enjoy everyone's videos!

Come on, everybody! It's "I See What You're Saying, Christmas Edition!"

Ok the hiding under the robe thing got me.

Hmmm, wonder if I can lose 10 lbs before I decide if people want to hear what I have to say.

Oh, Linda! I am SOOO there! =) I have no idea what I'll be doing, but I've got several weeks to come up with something completely witty. I'll try to do you proud.

Well, you've succeeded in making me hungry for Christmas cookies!

You crack me up. So we can't sing "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". And here I was gonna write a musical with that as the theme song.

Oh, yeah, I don't have the video equipment.

Alright, you've got my creative juices flowing. This could be either real fun or real humiliating for me, but I think I'm in!

OK...I'm gonna stick my neck out here and commit again. And no toilet papering (or dodgeball) between now and then for me. Nothing good can come of t-p'ing or dodgeball, I've decided. The only thing I'm the teeniest bit worried about is that someone will come across your blog/flog carnival while looking for sadistic porn?!? YIKES!!!!

That button is so cute. It looks like Gingy from Shrek! hee hee

You know I'm in. I'll try to make this one better than the last ... and (ahem) no violence (I just won't mention Nancy Pelosi at all).

Hi Linda,

First of all, I am so glad that you stopped by my blog today, so that I could follow your profile back and discover YOUR awesome blog. I love this vlog tour thing. I looked at a few from the first one, and I've never seen anything like it. I'm adding you to my feed, for sure, and looking forward to reading more here.

"So, what you're saying is that even though you are an almost-paralyzed, multiphobic personality who is in a constant state of panic, your wife did not leave you, you left her because she... liked Neil Diamond? "

From my all-time favorite movie, "What About Bob?".

Got it, ix-nay on the eil-nay. ;-)

Since my blog is more of a devotional, I don't think a video will really fit, but I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone else's videos on the 39th!

Yeah! I had so much fun with the first flog, gotta do the 2nd! Hopefully we'll have our house in some semblance of order by then (a goal! a goal!) and I can show my bloggy friends our cute little casa on Canning Street :-)

Can't wait for the next FLOG!! Working on my ideas already, but you've already ruined mine - no nudity or Neil Diamond. You really are a kill joy. LOL!! JUST KIDDING!

How about partial nudity and Barry Manilow? LOL!! I am cracking myself up this morning. (Note to self - don't drink so much coffee before blogging).

Anyway - this LONG caffiene influenced comment is just to say I AM IN! Can't wait!

Is wearing only a big red bow considered to be nude? Just wondering. I already have ideas for my next video. Look out VH1. :)
You know Pam is right. If you go through and pick out all the bad words you may just get some crazy hits by pervs.

Kim said...

Oooo....can't wait! I promise to make it before midnight this time! ;) And maybe a little more "substance" and a little less me!

Greg....I'm a little scared right now.....just sayin'. ;)

Blessings!

Oh, Linda. I am lovin' that Gingerbread Man although I think he may be a woman because I just figured out the lips- they look like they've had collagen injections! So maybe he is The Real Gingerbread Housewife or something like that.

TOO FUN!

And I love flog!

I'm so excited about this! I want to participate this time, and it will be close to my 100th post (which I wanted to do a video for anyway), so I'll save it for then and accomplish two things at once! Thanks for doing it again. The last one was a blast to watch!

Rachel said...

This IS going to be fun! I'm keeping mine under a minute this time. :)

Erin said...

Oh fun!!! I'm going to have to get my camera fixed by then...ASAP! It's suddenly turned into a priority :)

Darlene R. said...

Ok Linda. I AM going to do this one! I know, I know, you've heard that song and dance before (I will not be singing OR dancing by the way), but I am going to do it. My excuse is that I don't like my voice when I hear it taped, so I did shy away from the first "I See What Your Saying". I'm gonna do it this time, I'm gonna, I'm gonna!!

Cindy-Still His Girl said...

YEAH! Maybe I'll be with it enough to do this one! :)

I'm with Tammy. Now I feel like I have to look weight and make sure I look good in my robe. Wait, I don't have a robe. I'm a 40 something who never out grew sleeping in sweats (played basketball through college - you can take the girl out of the gym, but cant take the gym out of the girl). Whew, guess I'm ok! :0)

Thanks for your recent thoughtful comment. Made me feel good.

Blessings,
Roxx

Yayay! Guess what???

I just posted my first video today. YOu know, the one I meant to do for the first 'I See' FLOG?

I had no idea you were doing this for Christmas! I'm doubly excited now that I know how to get my video up! HUGE HINT: YouTube Quick Capture is totally awesome if you have a laptop.

Seeing as how my bloggy friends Sarah and Rachel survived, I think I can venture out and give it a go! And thank you for the no nudity or Neil Diamond. Neither is pretty!! :P

Kristen said...

Okay, Andrea - the commenter above!- is trying to convince me to play along. A video post seems a little daunting, but I think I'm in! : ))

I loved when you did it last time, although I didn't play along, I did check out the brave ladies who did. It was so much fun! And an awesome idea.

Merry (almost) Christmas! See you on the 30th! Literally. ; )
