The One Where I Almost Had a Surprise Surgery This Tuesday

You will recall this week that the local hospital switched my father's records with someone else's, thus keeping him an extra 48 hrs because of this mistake.

More mayhem, totally unrelated:

Last night, my phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Linda?"

"Yes?"

"This is [the] Hospital. We're calling to pre-register you for your surgery Tuesday."

[Whoa! Back it up, Barkus!]

"No, I'm not having surgery Tuesday. Nothing's wrong with me."

Yes, I actually said that last phrase. After all, they can't see my shrinking head.

The hospital voice was not totally going for this.

"Are you Linda?"

"Yes, yes I am. Linda Crow."

"I didn't tell you your last name."

[Huh? Sorry I mentioned it?]

"Well, my name is Linda Crow. Is that who you want?"

"Is that spelled 'C-R-A-L-L?'"

"No. It's like the bird, 'C-R-O-W.'"

"Then you're not having surgery Tuesday?"

"Nope, I think I'm good. Thanks anyway."

"OK, Sorry."

Geez-Louise. Protect me from the local hospital!

That is too funny! "I didn't tell you your last name". Gosh, how were you supposed to know that without her telling you?

Scary.

What I meant to say...

You may end up discharged minus a kidney.

I guess we have to laugh to keep from panicing about this and your Dad's switched records. And people wonder why I resist getting in the cycle of "the system". My sister, who has had some intense medical issues, hates to go the hospital because she said it's so hard to get out! She's just packed up and left more than once.

Yikes! This scares me!

How scary, but Lid you have so given me a much needed laugh this morning!!!

Our hospital must be one in a chain along with yours that goes by the same "oops" plan of action, because that would definitely happen (and has) at our hospital.

hah!!! and slightly scarey~~~
thanks again for another laugh-out-loud moment!

that is just amazing....it is scarey to think of how many screw ups there are in the hospital and any medical place....unbelievable.

And just think how much more efficient your hospital will be when it's backed by our government health scare plan. Blessings, SusanD

If you ever do have to go the hospital, write on your body what is to be done and where. You know a big "X cut here" may be your best plan!!

Watch your mail, I bet they try to bill you for that phone call. :)

This morning I had to give blood for my actual surgery next Thursday (I've received no call from anyone - should I be concerned?). She made me look at the two vials & verify that she had written my name & birth date on them. Made me feel like she knew what she was doing. We'll see how the rest of my experience is! Fortunately it's just outpatient so I think they'll let me leave...

Oh my! But her comment of "I didn't tell you your last name" cracked me right up. I think she needs a 2nd Cup of Coffee to wake up. LOL.

If this hospital is the same said hospital mixing up your dad's records, I would say, keep your whole family away from said hospital!!

Makes me wonder if I really am my mother's child. Anything could've happened. Who'd know?

This is crazy! I can't wait to share this one with my sister-in-law nurse who works the phone registration for outpatient surgery desk. Good grief.

We must try to stay away from the hospitals.

Just be glad they didn't ask for Lid. Then you'd know they had the right place!

Shrinking heads and unwanted surgical procedures. What's going on in Muncie? It's like Lord Of The Flies.

NO WAY! Unbelievable! Time to find a new hospital. Good thing you were on your toes (wink, wink).

I guess there's no use hoping it was a friend trying to give you blog fodder?!

Yep - pretty sure I'll head to the "big city" hospital for anything that's scheduled ahead of time. Geesh!

Wow, that is almost as bad as switching bed charts in the Hospital, just to confuse. Not that I would do that, but know someone who did. "You know who you are"

I was scared for you when I read the post; I'm really scared now by SusanD's comment. Ugh.
