Yes! And it was a little like being Cinderella - I'm a Kentucky girl and never thought I'd get the chance to do the Derby "right".However, about 8 years ago my husband and I attended as guests of a large vendor through his employer. We dressed up,(hat included) had a champagne brunch at The Jefferson Club before the race, then took a private bus to the track. The company's box was on the rail of the first turn; I really thought I'd cry when they played "My Old Kentucky Home" but it was actually as I was standing hanging over that rail feeling the pounding of the hooves of those beautiful horses that I finally lost it...It's a memory that I will hold forever!
I lived in Kentucky too!! Derby week is magical...it was our official bring out the spring weekend....Someday I hope to go back...
Nope. Never even been to Kentucky. But I've watched the Ascot Opening Day in My Fair Lady! Yeah, I know. You don't like musicals. You're missing some great stuff! :-)
Nope... never have been & never will go to a horse race. Too much of an animal advocate for that type of thing. The horses are abused, made to run on bones that aren't fully developed yet and made to tax their bones more than is humane or normal. I just can't advocate that kind of treatment to an animal. You asked. :-)
I"ve never been, but in SC they have the "Carolina Cup"...still have the hats and the julips...didn't have the chance to go to that, either!
I have never been. But I have watched every year since I was a little girl. I will again be jumping around the family room this year, cheering on some horse that I have arbitrarily picked from the field. Total addiction.
I think it would be interesting. If for nothing else just to say I have been. But I won't go. Why, you ask. Because I look stupid in hats. LOL!
Never been to the Derby but I have a great hat and I've had a mint julep : ) I've been to Ascot...so fun. They serve Pimms which I love, much more refreshing and less alcoholic tasting...oh and you can have strawberries and cream and see the Queen too...sigh.
I live here and have not been, what is wrong with this picture! I am going next year, I have a whole year to find a babysitter and things! Come down and go with me!xoxo,Lynn
I just told my husband this morning that I would love to go to the Derby. I want a pretty hat, dressy dress and the whole nine yards. It just looks like a bunch of fun. Maybe one day.........
Not been, but have spent LOTS of time around horses, and some horses are just born to run - they WANT to compete...those are the horses that tend to make it to the Derby and they're beautiful athletes...so yeah, I think it would be fun except for that whole crowd thing. Don't like crowds.
You might like my post on the Derby....
I love horses.
